A good deed gets rewarded……..

I agreed to bring Sherelene’s car to Knoxville to get it’s service done, and kill some time while that was accomplished.  I mentioned to the guys at Harper Infiniti that I was always looking for a killer burger and one offered the suggestion to try Sam & Andy’s.  Having never been there I was up for the challenge.  Boy am I glad I did, this is one great place run by the Captain family, above left to right, John and his father, George, and below their sister Brenda!  George’s wife Lucy sadly passed away back in Sept of 2013 and I’m told she was a great part of this team, and a team is what they are, first they make a great burger, a 4.5 on the 5 pickle scale which places it in the top 20 burgers in America!!!  There are several highly acclaimed burgers around the Knoxville area, but for me, Sam & Andy’s beat the rest hands down!  George uses his own special seasoning and that is the hat trick!  He does everything else right too, fresh meat, flat top grill, and top notch ingredients.  it reminded a lot of the Top Notch Cafe in Colfax, Washington and my good buddy Pete’s creation, also a top rated burger!

Family is important, and family business’ are my favorite, and this is one great family!  They have been making customers very happy since 1956 when Lucy and George started the business!  Even though they have a killer burger, I’m told George’s meat sauce for spaghetti is also spectacular, I’ll come balk and try it and let you know!

So thanks guys for rewarding me for bring my wife’s car to Knoxville!

Blessings,

  1. Speakers that you put in your window from the old drive in movie theaters. Before they went listening to the movie on the FM radio. Those bring me back to when I was real little. We would go to the play ground and try to stay up for the second movie with my folks. 35+ years ago at least.

Drive-in speakers! Used to love going to the movies at the drive in when I was a kid!
Sometimes you would have to go look for another spot to park in because your speaker was too crackley. It was not just a movie but an adventure. 🙂

  4. I remember those speakers from my youth but, ahem, the audio and/or visual quality was seldom a priority! I do recall going to a drive-in once with a priest friend — one of the shows was Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner — and during the intermission Tom decided to have some fun and put on his clerical collar before walking through the sea of cars (which became a sea of paranoia) to hit the concession stand!
There are very few drive-ins left and the cost to digital conversion mandated by the movie industry may kill off most of them in the next year or so. There’s one in my town (Keno Drive-In, Pleasant Prairie, WI) and Wal-Mart is reportedly looking to built a neighborhood market there.

  5. Bill,
I have never threatened a blog author with never reading his site again, but I am now doing so. I am also letting you know that, as a brother in Christ, you are about to cause me to stumble. If you do not stop posting all of these stunning photos with the Fuji X system, I am afraid I will have to sell the Nikon kit (mainly due to weight issues) and make the switch! Of course, that was all tongue-in-cheek, my brother! I am truly enjoying your work lately. It seems as though retirement and the Fuji have given you a new creative spark to already beautiful work. Please, keep up the beautiful posts!
    In our Lord,
    Aubrey

Had me scared for a few sentences!!!! I’m so glad you are enjoying my wonderful adventure, but I take no responsibility for your feeling you need to make as witch, wink, wink!!!!

Everyone has already provided the correct answer to your question. It reminds me of when we use to meet at the high school and get as many kids as we could in one car and go to the drive in on $5 per carload night, what was showing was not important. GOOD TIMES.
