Sorry….Wrong Again….

I will be packing Monday and traveling Tuesday to the Palouse, so I will go ahead and post now, this one is just for fun!!

Funny thing, how people think they know you.  I got an interesting email saying some very nice things about my blog, my classes on KelbyOne, etc, etc.  It ended with a interesting sentence, and I quote, “Being a fellow from Appalachia, I guess I thought you would be a gun toting, redneck,  before reading your inspiring words!”  I can’t blame this fellow, because that is the accepted opinion of folks from my part of the country, and he was right about one thing, that few people know, I am a gun lover.

Now I’m not getting ready for the zombie apocalypse, or the Russians coming, or anything like that.  I love to target shoot at the range, (the old days we just went into the woods), and I’ve always enjoyed firearms.  I’m a safety nut and have taught all my family members the proper way to handle a gun and how to be absolute sure that all guns are unloaded until they need to go into action.  By-the-way Sherelene is an expert shot!  I thought I might share the guns I own and shoot above and below;

Above are my Handguns above;

1. A Glock 23 chambered in .40 calibre   (Same gun as issued to the FBI)

2.  A Springfield Armory XD 3.3 Mod. 2 chambered in 9mm.  Concealed Carry

3.  A Ruger Mark III Target pistol with a bull barrel chambered for .22 Long Rifle.

4.  A Taurus Poly Protector 5 shot revolver chambered in .38 Special +P  – also concealed carry.

5.  A Taurus Tracker large frame chambered in .22 Long Rifle.  To stay accurate with heavy frame revolvers.

6.  A Ruger Single Six revolver chambered for .22 Long Rifle and and an additional cylinder for .22 Magnum.  Loved Roy Rogers!

Rifles above:

1. A Mossburg  Model 500 – 12 gauge pump shotgun.

2.  A Henry Golden Boy Lever Action Rifle chambered for .22 Long Rifle.

3.  A Henry Short Western Lever Action   chambered for .22 Long Rifle.

4.  A Ruger 10-22 Tactical Carbine with Nikon Scope and Bi-pod  chambered for .22

5. A Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15-22  Chambered for .22 Long Rifle  chambered in .22 Long Rifle.

with Nikon Tactical Scope, Bi-pod, laser and combat light.

So, maybe that was  something you din’t know!

Blessings,

the “well armed” pilgrim

The most important statement in the post is the third sentence in the second paragraph; “I’m a safety nut and have taught all my family members the proper way to handle a gun and how to be absolute sure that all guns are unloaded until they need to go into action. ” Far too many people own and use weapons and do not know the proper safety procedures.

Nice collection. That Ruger Tactical is making me drool a little.

  4. Johnny Boyd says:

Nice Bill…… I have a Ruger 9 mm 17+1, a Ruger 380 with a crimson laser and a DelTon 223. Been wanting a 10 mm since I can always find ammo for it.

  5. Bill Fortney says:

Some variant of a .223 is in my future, but the choices are bewildering! I think DelTon is in Kentucky, Winchester, I believe.

Oh a man after my own heart….

My favorite implies comment tothose who claim you don’t shoot Nikon anymore…is well,I actually do shoot a lot of heat with Nikon!

After Baby Echo arrives and gets healthy I need some His Light Time with you and the God Gang. Maybe we can go shooting too!

    Be safe my friend.

  7. Rodney McKnight says:

Thanks for sharing Bill. I love my Glock 23 but that Springfield 9 mm looks nice for carrying.

Just put a Nikon 4x scope on my 10-22 and replaced the stock trigger with a 2-pound pull trigger. Now we’re having as much fun as shooting a Fuji xt-1. We have a similar inventory: Springfield 9mm, SW Shield 9mm for conceal carry, SW .38 for conceal carry, Sig .22 semi-auto for target, Ruger .22LR single action with magnum cylinder, LWRC 5.56 AR, Browning 12 ga. over/under for trap. But my favorite, and my first rifle at age 10, is my J.C Higgins .22 single-shot. You can tell a person’s age if they remember a J.C. Higgins.

I’ll take a #5 on the second set please, but with .308 😉

  10. Mike Roberts says:

From here on out, I will be very careful when criticizing your images…..

  11. Kindred spirits you and I.

  12. Mike Early says:

This was a very surprising post there sir. Guess you never know who is a gun lover. I like your collection.

I also have a collection. I built it up to where it is fairly extensive (way too extensive according to my wife) with handguns in .22, .380, 9, .38 / .357, .45 and .44 mag calibers, rifles in .22, .223/.556, 6mm, .243, .30-06, .30-.30, 30BR and .308. Oh, and a couple of shotguns, in the both the sport and tactical variety. I reload all of my own .38, .357. .45, 6mm, 30BR and .308 ammo.

And since you mentioned .308 tactical there is one of those that I had built with a Remington 700 short action with special match grade trigger, .308 match chamber, McMillian A-5 stock and a 8-80 March scope. With the suppressor installed it is remarkably easy to handle and kind to the ears. 🙂

Not really into hunting, just like punching holes in paper and banging steel.

If you ever get up to the Richmond area we’ll have to go out to the range.

Finally, you might have experienced some of the strange reactions I get when people that only know the gun side of me when I tell them I am going out shooting birds in flight 🙂

    Have a safe trip….

    • Bill Fortney says:

Yes, what a great arsenal! Would love to get into reloading, but I really need a new hobby, like I need someone to beat me up!!
I will take you up on it, would love to punch some paper together, but only if you promise not to laugh to hard!! Was a really good shot when I was younger, but eyesight and reduced steadiness has definitely taken a toll!

      • John Ruth says:

Same offer goes if ever in Kansas City area. I would go shooting either way. Look me up.

  13. Pretty images, Bill!

  14. Hey Bill,
I met to say pretty images on your landscape images above on your other post. Sorry

  15. John Ruth says:

Bill being a Christian does not mean you should not protect family or yourself. Oops a double negative! You know what I mean. Nice all round collection. I have been a shooter of film and firearms for 55 years now. Sometime a friend will ask if I have had a chance to go shooting lately. My response is which type are you talking about. I live to shoot and shoot to live!
