Wonderful Smokies Workshop!
Jack and I just completed our second workshop in the Smokies in April! This second one, which ended yesterday, was a smaller group about nine folks and it was one of the best workshops we have done in a long time! What made it such a great workshop? Well let’s see; great shooting conditions, perfect weather for 90% of the three and a half days, a really nice group of people who were determined to learn and worked very hard at that task!!! We also had some very productive image reviews, some good meals together and lots of wonderful fellowship! You can’t beat that! Here are some samples of what we were able to capture together!

Having just done some portrait work with Joe McNally at a Eastern Kentucky coal mine, I really wanted to try my hand at some portraits, (not my forte’), and I am not a lighting guy, but in the old Missionary Baptist Church we had wonderful window light, so I used the 56mm f 1.2 lens, (shooting at f 2), to try to express my inner Joe McNally!! I was pleased! Hope you like them!
We had a great time, with great people, Jack and I were on fire and it has me pumped for the next workshops coming up in early June on the Oregon Coast and in the Palouse!!
I love it when a plan comes together!!

The early morning light with the fog and the wonderful light in the church made for some wonderful images. Having good tools and knowing how to use them is well demonstrated in the images.
Fun to play with good tools in great light and conditions!!!!
As always, I love this post. I was in the smokies a week ago for only a few hours, which I stole from the highway on a trip to VA to visit my brother; barely enough time to drive the Roaring Fork trail and make a few images. One of my favorite places on earth. I must go with you on one of your workshops there sometime. Love your portraits too! McNally would be proud. 😉 Blessings, mi amigo.

Beautiful work, Bill. It looks like it was a special time. Pretty amazing how the green has popped since I was there….your macro shots are wonderful. I am going to be in the Palouse the week before you and Jack are there. I am looking forward to shooting there..and will visit the Top Notch Cafe on your recommendation. Thanks for the lovely images.

It was fun to bump into you and Jack in Cades Cove just prior to and during your workshop. The two of you are a pleasure to interact with and seem to have boundless energy. Your photographs always inspire me and remind me to be more creative and not just photograph the obvious. I’ll post several of my own shots from the trip on my website soon.
