Sowing and reaping…..

11 years, 3 months ago 8

I got up early this morning and headed to the laundry to take some stuff that needed cleaning, and as soon as I got a mile from the house I realized it was going to be a great morning to shoot!  So after a quick trip back to the house to pick up a camera, (D600 with the 24-120 lens). I headed back toward the laundry making a number of stops along the way.  The following images are some of my mornings fun!

This morning’s devotional was on sowing and reaping, and it really hit me in a phone conversation this morning,  how I’m reaping what I’ve sown.  Explain?  A student from a photography school in Atlanta, called this morning wanting to interview me for a school assignment.  We talked about the usual stuff and then he asked if most of my work was the result of an assignment or job using producers and directors.  I explained to him that the photographer he was describing was some other guy, not me.  I suggested he give Joe McNally a call on that question.  I started to try and explain to him how my photography gets generated and it made me realize more  than ever, that I’m living the dream. well at least my dream!!  I explained to him that my work is mostly grown out of what I find interesting and what I would like to share with others.  That though I had done “directed” assignment in my younger years I’m mostly now a very serious amatuer shooter, just looking for cool things to photograph.

Back to reaping and sowing, of course this is true of everything in life, if you treat others with respect, you will be treated respectfully, if you are kind, kindness will be returned, if you don’t mind hurting others, others won’t mind hurting you, pretty simple!  It extends into a photographers life as well, if you seek and photograph, (sowing), things for which you are passionate, that passion will appear in the results (reaping)!  I’m not suggesting that my work deserves praise, but it does bring me joy and I love the process, and the life.  Thank You Father for such a blessed life!

Blessings,

the pilgrim

Every single thing you wrote in this post resonated so highly with me it was amazing. You truly put into words and your lovely pictures everything I feel when doing my photography. I do it because it brings me joy and I photograph those very things that make me happy! Truly a blessing!

I’ve been thinking lately, God wants us to use our gifts to serve him right. My whole family is full of gifted people. My dad painted, my bother was a very good drawer, especially of people. He presented a picture he drew to Senator Moynahan in high school. I also have other artistic family members who are also gifted with singing voices and musical interests, writing, mechanics, engineers, lots of smart people. It seems I kind of got handed the short end of the stick as far as gifts go because I got none of that. I am decent I guess as a photographer, far from great, but I guess that is still a gift. My question is how does one use photography to serve God. Seeing how that is, as of right now, the only gift I have that I know of, I should should be using it to serve him somehow should I not? But how? Yeah I know there is that Help portrait thing but to be honest it would be more like “Hurt Portrait” if I did it. I am no good at flash and portrait photography. Even Kelby training can’t help me with that, I tried, its just not my passion. I am a nature and landscape photographer. Any ideas?

One is to put together nature photography and music shows and volunteer to share with various groups that would enjoy them, giving a witness in the process. I have a pastor friend who is an exceptional photographer who has done that for years, and he says it is well received! Or you could just write a blog like I do and bore everyone 5 days a week!!!! 😉

    Good Morning Brother Bill,

Spot on as usual. When I think of my landscape work, Paul and his discussion in Romans always pops into my mind. A gifted landscape photographer can get viewers thinking about creation and The Creator very quickly, and in a non-threatening environment. Every capture of the beauty around us is one more reason “we are without excuse…….”

Keep up the good work, I for one (of many I’m sure) am never bored, just inspired.

May The Good Lord Bless you and your week!
