People that are fortunate enough to have success in the music business or show business have a choice on how to use their fame.  Shouting vulagar profanities and breaking federal law by threatening a sitting president is one thing you could do, or, how about looking at what Dolly Parton has done!

Dolly Parton has been a longtime supporter of charities, especially those relating to literacy.

She established the Imagination Library in 1995, which sends one book per month to children from the time of their birth until they enter kindergarten.

She gave $500,000 in 2006 to Fort Sanders Medical Center for women and children’s health.

Her efforts to preserve the bald eagle through the American Eagle Foundation’s sanctuary at Dollywood earned her the Partnership Award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2003.

Dolly is the most honored female country performer of all time. Achieving 25 RIAA certified gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, she has had 25 songs reach number 1 on the Billboard Country charts, a record for a female artist. She has 41 career top 10 country albums, a record for any artist, and she has 110 career charted singles over the past 40 years. All-inclusive sales of singles, albums, hits collections, paid digital downloads and compilation usage during her Hall of Fame career have reportedly topped a staggering 100 million records world-wide. She has garnered 7 Grammy Awards, 10 Country Music Association Awards, 5 Academy of Country Music Awards, 3 American Music Awards and is one of only five female artists to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award. Dolly was inducted as a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. And the litany goes on.

Dolly’s career has spanned nearly five decades and is showing no signs of slowing down. An internationally-renowned superstar, the iconic and irrepressible Parton has contributed countless treasures to the worlds of music, film and television.

After the recent devistating fires in the Smokies, she gave $1,000. per month to every family that was displaced and needed help for six months.

Screaming profanties, disrespecting your country, after a career of vulgar music or help others, your choice.

Where’s the photographer?

I went down to Old Car City today to spend some time with my dear brother Pete Collins and to celebrate his great news that he is cancer free!  He brought along  his friend, David Carr, a great young man and the drummer for Third Day a terrific contemporary Christian band!  We had a lot of fun fellowshipping and working over Dean Lewis’ collection of rust as art!

This was my first time back to OCC for a while and I was using the X-T2 for the first time there.  I also did a number of shots trying to work out the 16mm f 1.4 lens from Fujifilm. The next few images show the versatility of that lens using near and far positions on the subject.  All shot at f 1.4.

I also tried the 18-135 (my most used lens, by far) to shoot some old favorites and a few new images.

This is the special filter that makes the selected color appear and turns everything else monochrome, love the Elvis and the red dial on the radio!

I far prefer overcast light at OCC, but this morning sun made the, much shot, Cadillac emblem really shine!

discernment |dəˈsərnməntnoun1    the ability to judge well: an astonishing lack of discernment.(in Christian contexts) perception in the absence of judgment with a view to obtaining spiritual direction and understanding:without providing for a time of healing and discernment, there will be no hope of living through this present moment without a shattering of our common life.

This is the definition of discernment from Webster’s dictionary.  It our everyday lives we observe the actions of others and we often are puzzled, concerned, or dismayed and we seek to understand, to discern, what is really happening. Waht is driving the narative?

For the purpose of this post I am going to “assume” that you are a Chrisitan, that you believe in God and hopefully have accepted Jesus Christ as  your Savior.  If that is not the case this will not make much sense to  you or you will probably reject it, outright.  If you are as described, a believer, you already know that there is a God and His counterpart, an enemy, Satan.  God desires the best for you and tells you the truth, Satan desires your destruction and lies to you.  In this world there is a war happening and these are the two field generals.

How do we “discern” where a person is coming from and what his or her actions really mean. and who they are getting their marching orders from.

* Quick note, this is not an encouragment to JUDGE others, only a way to divide the thoughts an actions of others into a God position or Satan position.  The fate of any person is in God’s hands, and all have the opporutnitiy to accept or reject Him.  So we all have the same chance to make the right decision.

This was the last sentence in my moring devotional, and it brings a great deal of light to the process of discernment.

When a decision is unclear, ask yourself these questions: Will Christ be glorified in this choice? Can I do this in Jesus’ name? If either answer is no, then don’t follow that path, because the Holy Spirit is not guiding you there. His leading always aligns with Scripture and brings glory to Christ.

When you here the words of someone and they do not meet this test, you can make a safe assumption that the their motives and actions are NOT coming from a “God based” decsion.  It is vital in these times to know who our enemies are.  Keep in mind that Jesus, himself, said “Pray for your enemies, pray for those that do wrong against you.”

We are not to discern in order to punish those enemies, we are to discern that we may know who to pray for, and who to be careful, not to follow!

Keep these truths in mind from God’s own Word;

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

Galatians 6:7-8 NIV

33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”  the words of Jesus

Matthew 12:  33-37

20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
