Brien Aho and I will be spendng the week in New Orleans for the Super Bowl.  We are staying right in the middle of the French Quarter which is one of my favorite places to shoot for color and interesting people.  I hope we will have some time most days to walk around and do some shooting in the Quarter.  I will share some of those images this week.

As a personal assignment I will shoot a DSLR with it’s kit lens some evenings, and a compact, point and shoot on others, it will be fun to see how each type of camera will affect the way in which I approach the subjects.  Compact cameras do not call attention to the photographers, so you can often get better people shots than with a big DSLR, which screams, PHOTOGRAPHER!  Then again the DSLR has the edge in terms of quality, and low noise performance, so it will be a fun comparison.  I try to make every photography outing an opportunity to learn and improve my craft!

I’ll also try and capture the festivities of Super Bowl week!

When I was in Atlanta I got to hang out with RC and when we shot the RR Museum, he had a blast, well as it turns out he is planning to join us for Old Car City coming up in March.  Old Car City is located about 45 minutes north of Atlanta on I75 and we will spend two days shooting there mixed with classroom time mid day and evenings.  We will then spend several hours at the South East Railroad.  He blogged about his joining us on his blog today, check it out!

WARNING- THIS IS AN AD!!!!   O.K. not completely but I would love to talk you into coming to Old Car City!  The thing that makes Old Car City such a favorite workshop for me is the following;

1.  Any time you can learn how to do HDR from Jim Begley, you need to jump on it.  Jim teaches many ways to get killer HDRs and HDR effects and his teaching on this will blow you away.

2.  Old Car City is the nations biggest junk yard, 36 acres, yes 36, with over 4,000 rusting cars, trucks and other mobile things, (bicycles, wagons, etc.)  The colors, design and hood ornaments are amazing, it is truly a fine art shooters paradise.  On RC’s blog he gives a link to Jim Begley’s website and you can see some of the amazing images Jim has made there.  The great news is with a little help from Jim and I, and remember RC will be around to help to, you will get some outstanding images!

3.  Everything is right there in one place.  Old Car City is easy to walk around in, our hotel is about a mile down the road, and it is only a one hour drive over to Duluth GA, for the RR Museum.  We have a great classroom and there are some wonderful places to eat close by, a perfect setting!  It seems to add to the camaraderie!

4.  Because of the nature of the subject matter, we can do more hands on demonstrations, and give more individual help, simply because we are in close proximity to everyone!

5.  I can’t think of any other location with more great subject matter if you are into Americana type subjects!

So I think you can tell that I’m pumped, and I really hope you will come out to Old Car City and join us, see I told it was sort of an ad!

Ephesians 1:1-14

New Living Translation (NLT)

Greetings from Paul

1 This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus.

I am writing to God’s holy people in Ephesus,who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus.

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Spiritual Blessings

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

12 God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. 13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

The Lord will have His way, whether we believe in His sovereignty or not.  His plan is far bigger than we can grasp, and it was designed in a way that will glorify Him while revealing our need for Him.

That fateful line was from the In Touch devotional of a couple of days ago, and it is very revealing!  God has a plan, He has always had a plan, and His plan has not changed.  Part of the Master plan is an individual plan for you!  While God has not spelled out all His plans, He has made it clear in His word several things we can count on;

1. He wants us to trust in Him, and and accept His forgiveness!

2.  He is trustworthy, and worthy of our trust and praise!

3.  He proved His love for us when He sent His only Son to die for us!  Our forgiveness rests in that act!

4.  Even though we, often, cannot see it, all things do work for our good if we love and accept Him.

5.  He promised He would never leave us or forsake us, and He won’t!

God will reveal His will for you if you seek Him.

Thinking about life on the drive home from Atlanta last night I came to some interesting thoughts. I thought about just how much God has blessed my life, about how much I love my partner and wife, how much I’ve enjoyed my children and now what a great pleasure it is to have 6  fantastic grandchildren.  Then I thought about what as great time Jim and I along with Snake, Chuck, Scott, Matt and RC have had doing the workshops and sharing our faith!

Then I thought about how much I’ve enjoyed the great people of Nikon that have become such good friends, and how many wonderful customers I’ve worked with.  Then I thought about just how much more fun I’m having as a photographer than ever before!  I started thinking about all the great plans I have for this year, and next year, and hopefully the year after that!  I can’t wait to see Tuscany with Sherelene, and hit some more great beaches with her, and then watch each year as my grandchildren grow older.

I can’t wait to share God’s unbelievable love with others, to encourage  people He places in my path to trust Him and let Him change their lives forever.  I thought about how the simplest pleasures in life hold such a  strong attraction!  Sitting by the fire place on a cold winter’s night, reading a great book, and studying His Word.

I thought about how honored I felt to have Charles Stanley come to the booth in Atlanta and gave me a hug, and then to get a hardy handshake from Donn Jones, (the Tennessee Titans photographer),  and my dear brother Nick Coury.  I thought what good friends Scott Diussa, and Bill Pekala, Paul Van Allen, and all the “youngsters” at Nikon have become!

I thought most of all how unbelievable is is that one man, the most important man in history, came to earth, and died for me, so t hat I might be forgiven of my sins.  I thought all of this is not possible, for a man like me that deserves so little, but has been given so much.

I then drove in my driveway, hugged and kissed Sherelene,  and then set quietly by the fire and thought some more……

A blessed man,
