Off to Oregon & Palouse!!!!!
I’m leaving Sunday night to the airport hotel to fly out first thing Monday morning for Portland OR to meet up with Jack for our two week swing down the Oregon Coast and then on to the beautiful Palouse region of Washington State!!!! I promise to try to do some posting through out the two weeks. Our days are busy but I will at least post some images every few days.
I will ask for your prayers for the second week. This is the longest days of the year and we often need to travel for a while to get to a sunrise location, so we leave the hotel around 3:00 a.m. to get out there. I try to get a few naps in during the part of the day we are not out shooting, but there aren’t many of those! This is two great weeks, Jack and I usually have a lot of fun and great laughs! We have two good groups for these workshops and I know we will have a great time!
One of my favorite parts for the Oregon Coast trip is the harbors we get to shoot. Tis year I’m going ot use he 100-400 to try and do some tight details. I have used the 18-135 or the 55-200 in the past, will be interesting to see how this plan works out. You know what they say about plans, so we’ll see. Here are a few of my favorites from my last harbor shooting!

Bill: Less than 10 minutes south of Cannon Beach is Hug Point — beach, watershots, a cave and a waterfall next to it. Must see shooting!
I’ll mention it to Jack, sounds like a great location!

Getting there at low tide is the only way to see the wagon tracks and to hug the point.

Bill, IMHO Hug Point is as good (and perhaps better) than the standard Cannon Beach Haystack Rock offerings. You get a cave and a waterfall in addition to the beach, ocean and the sunrise/sunset possibilities. Access to the usual shooting areas at Ecola State Park was blocked off when I was there earlier this year due to storm damage. I would scout that to see if that has changed any. If all goes well you ought to have a lot of fun at both places if you can swing it but if Haystack Rock is not or is less of an option you do have other choices around.
Will be thinking of you and the fun that we had last year with you and Jack on the coast. I found out….the days are long in the Palouse…heck the sun comes up SO early and goes down SO late…..I guess that is why the crops are so spectacular in the Palouse. The proprietor at Top Notch will be looking for you next week…I stopped in and told him you were “on your way”. I will be looking forward to seeing all of your images….and remind your buddy to post also. Take care!!
