Thought I would share this with my old friends, and shock my young ones!<\/p>\n

How Old Is grandpa?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Stay with this — the answer is at the end. It will blow you away.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about current events.
\nThe grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Grandfather replied, “Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Television<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Penicillin<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Polio shots<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Frozen foods<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Xerox<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Contact lenses<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Frisbees and<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018The pill<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There were no:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Credit cards<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Laser beams or<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Ball-point pens<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Man had not invented:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Pantyhose<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Air conditioners<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Dishwashers<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Clothes dryers<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018And the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018Man hadn’t yet walked on the moon<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your Grandmother and I got married first, and then lived together…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Every family had a father and a mother.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, “Sir”.
\nAnd after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, “Sir.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Draft dodgers were those who closed front doors as the evening breeze started.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends-not purchasing condominiums.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President’s speeches on our radios.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And I don’t ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you saw anything with ‘Made in Japan ‘ on it, it was junk<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The term ‘making out’ referred to how you did on your school exam…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, and instant coffee were unheard of.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And if you didn’t want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, but who could afford one?
\nToo bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In my day:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201cGrass” was mowed,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201cCoke” was a cold drink,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201cpot” was something your mother cooked in and<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201cRock music” was your grandmother’s lullaby.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201cAids” were helpers in the Principal’s office,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201cChip” meant a piece of wood,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201chardware” was found in a hardware store and<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2018\u201cSoftware” wasn’t even a word.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No wonder people call us “old and confused” and say there is a generation gap. And how old do you think I am?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I bet you have this old man in mind…you are in for a shock!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
