It will blow you away.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One evening a grandson was talking to his grandfather about current events.<br \/>\nThe grandson asked his grandfather what he thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Grandfather replied, &#8220;Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Television<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Penicillin<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Polio shots<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Frozen foods<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Xerox<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Contact lenses<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Frisbees and<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The pill<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were no:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Credit cards<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Laser beams or<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Ball-point pens<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Man had not invented:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Pantyhose<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Air conditioners<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Dishwashers<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Clothes dryers<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Man hadn&#8217;t yet walked on the moon<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your Grandmother and I got married first, and then lived together&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Every family had a father and a mother.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, &#8220;Sir&#8221;.<br \/>\nAnd after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, &#8220;Sir.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Draft dodgers were those who closed front doors as the evening breeze started.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends-not purchasing condominiums.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President&#8217;s speeches on our radios.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And I don&#8217;t ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you saw anything with &#8216;Made in Japan &#8216; on it, it was junk<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The term &#8216;making out&#8217; referred to how you did on your school exam&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pizza Hut, McDonald&#8217;s, and instant coffee were unheard of.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We had 5 &amp;10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And if you didn&#8217;t want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, but who could afford one?<br \/>\nToo bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In my day:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201cGrass&#8221; was mowed,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201cCoke&#8221; was a cold drink,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201cpot&#8221; was something your mother cooked in and<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201cRock music&#8221; was your grandmother&#8217;s lullaby.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201cAids&#8221; were helpers in the Principal&#8217;s office,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201cChip&#8221; meant a piece of wood,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201chardware&#8221; was found in a hardware store and<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u201cSoftware&#8221; wasn&#8217;t even a word.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>No wonder people call us &#8220;old and confused&#8221; and say there is a generation gap.
