Every time I do a gear post I end up getting questions and this time a dear friend, sent me a handful, but it may be something you’ve wondered about too! \u00a0You may even want to chime in, inf act wish you would! \u00a0Here goes:<\/p>\n

1. \u00a0Do \u00a0you have a recommendation regarding polarizers?<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0I really love Singh Ray filters and their polarizers. For a number of reasons they are neutral and that is a big deal, no color casts, they’re plano parallel, which means they will not adverse;y affect sharpness. \u00a0they re also not cheap, but as my grandfather always said, “you get what you pay for!” \u00a0Are their other ones you can recommend? \u00a0Though I would rather have a Singh Ray, Nikon, and the better B&W are both pretty good too. \u00a0But if you spent money on a \u00a0great lens, I would buy a Singh \u00a0Ray.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 2. \u00a0Do you use UV filters to protect lenses? \u00a0<\/span><\/strong>No, well wait a minute, only sometimes. \u00a0If I am working around blowing sand, I will use a filter to protect the front element of the lens. \u00a0I spend good money on great lenses so I am just careful and use a lens cap and protect it without a filter.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 3. \u00a0Do you always use a lens hood, and do you use the one provided with the lens?<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0I think lens hoods are vital, but sometimes if you’re using a polarizer unless you have a screw in hood, you have to work without one. \u00a0I often buy lens hoods off Amazon that are the right filter thread size and that do not vignette! \u00a0How do you know they won’t vignette? \u00a0Buy it and find out, if it doesn’t, Amazon has a great return policy, or do as I do, have a box of hoods that didn’t work once but might later on for something else!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 4. \u00a0How do you clean lenses?<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0When I worked for Nikon I got a chance to \u00a0hang out with a number of great technicians and they taught me a lot. \u00a0First don’t over clean your lenses, if it is just a little dusty, blow it off with a good blower bulb, I love the Rocket blowers. \u00a0If it needs a little more after the blower, use a good clean micro fiber cloth to wipe it, without any pressure. \u00a0if smudges are still there I use the Zeiss alcohol impregnated glass cleaner from Walmart’s eye glass department.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 5. \u00a0Do you use flash or LED lighting?<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0Both, but mostly LED lights. \u00a0After all, after teaching with Joe McNally I couldn’t respect, myself if I looked at my own flash work!!! \u00a0The LED lights works great and you can see what you’re doing as you shoot. \u00a0Lots of good one are out there but the ones that \u00a0let you dial in some color temperature variation are very handy. \u00a0Mine is fro a company called Ledgo, model LG-B160C.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 6. \u00a0How about collapsible reflectors?<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0I use a diffuser on sunny days to tame the light and I have one and Manfroto that is great for portraits and kicking some warm light back in on subjects, I even have some really small ones for close-up work.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Come up with some more shoot me an email or post here!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In Him, Blessings,<\/p>\n <\/p>\n the pilgrim<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Every time I do a gear post I end up getting questions and this time a dear friend, sent me a handful, but it may be something you’ve wondered about too! \u00a0You may even want to chime in, inf act wish you would! \u00a0Here goes: 1. \u00a0Do \u00a0you have a recommendation regarding […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-18069","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-chronicles"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18069","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=18069"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18069\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":18073,"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/18069\/revisions\/18073"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=18069"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=18069"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=18069"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
