\u00a0For me the most important quality of a sensor and lens is this critical property. \u00a0Images that come from cameras that have this extremely important quality produce images that just &#8220;have that look!&#8221; \u00a0A look of smoothness and richness. \u00a0It is a function of the sharpness, the lack of noise, and the smoothness of tones. \u00a0My very favorite cameras have this wonderful quality, and almost nothing looks as good as an image from such a camera. \u00a0I shot some great stuff today that I&#8217;m not allowed to show until later in the week. \u00a0I did however get to see a beautifully restored Mig 21. \u00a0It was a great \u00a0subject to test the 24 mega-pixel D7100!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, 'Bitstream Vera Sans', Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif; color: #ffffff;\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px; white-space: nowrap;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">I&#8217;ve been getting more and more fond of this camera, it is one of the few I&#8217;ve used that has both resolution and gradation to do this kind of work. \u00a0I test cameras to determine if they have this sterling quality and so far it is a precious few that exhibits it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">If you want to test a camera for gradation, photograph any smooth surface like a waxed car, or motorcycle, or a freshly painted airplane skin. \u00a0If the light shows the range of tones, you can see if the camera you are testing has this quality. \u00a0I hope it does!
