

{"id":8688,"date":"2013-08-03T15:35:54","date_gmt":"2013-08-03T15:35:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/?p=8688"},"modified":"2013-08-03T15:43:32","modified_gmt":"2013-08-03T15:43:32","slug":"a-perfect-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/?p=8688","title":{"rendered":"A Perfect Family?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[8688]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-Blog Post Image wp-image-8689\" title=\"Family shot small\" src=\"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-580x418.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-580x418.jpg 580w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-150x108.jpg 150w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-270x194.jpg 270w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-960x692.jpg 960w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-600x432.jpg 600w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-880x634.jpg 880w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-350x252.jpg 350w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-400x288.jpg 400w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-370x266.jpg 370w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-500x360.jpg 500w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small-693x500.jpg 693w, https:\/\/billfortney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Family-shot-small.jpg 1486w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The end of a wonderful and exhausting week! \u00a0I got a really interesting email from a friend saying it had been great to hear about my perfect family gathering. \u00a0Oooops, I hope I didn&#8217;t say that! \u00a0Family is a wonderful, complex, mysterious, and ever moving target! \u00a0I suspect my family is no different than every one else&#8217;s. \u00a0 The only difference is they are &#8220;my&#8221; family, and for each of us that makes all the difference. \u00a0This morning as we gathered for our last big family breakfast a number of things happened that altered my view of family! \u00a0Before I share those things, let me say that families are made up of human beings and as a group (the human race), we are pretty diverse and different people!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I think it is normal to have things we love about others and things we don&#8217;t. \u00a0That doesn&#8217;t make anyone good or bad, it just means we have to work harder in relationships, because of the differences. \u00a0I&#8217;m certain if you asked Sherelene if that is true, \u00a0she could give you a long laundry list of things about me that can be, or are, down right challenging!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Before everyone parted this morning we had our traditional prayer in a circle where we asked God to bless and protect each family especially those that would be traveling. \u00a0I asked God to help each of us look for the good in one another. \u00a0After the prayer Abigail, my youngest grand daughter insisted in a loud voice &#8220;family hug!&#8221; \u00a0The little ones like to get in the center of the circle as we all do a big bear hug and squeeze them in the middle, \u00a0it always produces squeals of joy! \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong> Lesson One; the \u00a0joy of being loved and knowing you have a place in the world.<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0Abigail knows she has a loving mother and father, brother and this whole collection of cousins, aunts and uncles, and grand parents that love her, she can&#8217;t keep from showing it! \u00a0 <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">We need to embrace the love of those that are our family.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were some tears shed all around as it hit home that our week was over. \u00a0Our family only gets together as a group once a year. \u00a0Scott and Diane live in St. Augustine, Florida so getting them with the rest of the family, is difficult with so much distance, between us. \u00a0My grand son Cade gets pretty shaken up when the cars are about to pull out, and he taught me the greatest lesson of the week. <strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Lesson Two: \u00a0No relationship is worth much if we don&#8217;t pour our hearts into it.<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0If we try to protect ourselves, or our turf.
