SETTING<\/span> : \u00a0This is where you set up all your initial BKT settings:<\/p>\n<p>Mine are as follows:<\/p>\n<p>AE Bkt \u00a0+\/- 1 Stop<\/p>\n<p>ISO BKT \u00a0+\/- 1 Stop<\/p>\n<p>Film Simulation BKT \u00a0Film 1 \u00a0 Std \u00a0(Provia) \u00a0 \u00a0Film 2 \u00a0S \u00a0(Astia) \u00a0 Film 3 \u00a0B (monochrome no filter)<\/p>\n<p>White Balance BKT \u00a0+\/- 1<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Auto Focus Setting \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>AF Mode \u00a0 Area \u00a0 (the rest can be set as you work)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Advanced Filter (to your liking)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">ISO Auto Control<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0(These setting take affect when you turn the ISO dial to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A<\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>Default Sensitivity \u00a0 400<\/p>\n<p>Max. Sensitivity \u00a0 3200<\/p>\n<p>Min. Shutter Speed \u00a0 1\/125<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Image Size \u00a0<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0( change this depending on subject shape in the Q Menu )<\/p>\n<p>Default \u00a03:2<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Image Quality \u00a0 I shoot F (Fine jpeg)<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0You can choose RAW or jpeg + RAW<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Dynamic Range \u00a0 I&#8217;ve found AUTO to work great.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Self Timer \u00a0 Off \u00a0&#8211; \u00a0I assigned Self timer to the Function button FN button that says WiFi\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">because I use a 2 second delay a lot!!!!!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Interval Timer Shooting \u00a0 (only go there when I want to use that feature)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>White Balance \u00a0 \u00a0Normally set to AUTO \u00a0however is easy to set in the Q menu and I do often!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">For now I have all he following at 0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Color \u00a00<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Sharpness \u00a0 0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Highlight Tone \u00a0 o<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Shadow Tone \u00a0 0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">Noise Reduction \u00a0 0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Long Exposure Noise Reduction : \u00a0ON \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Select Custom Setting \u00a0 is still on 1<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Edit and Save Custom Settings : \u00a0 \u00a0Used when needed.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Mount Adapter Setting \u00a0Is set with the focal length manual focus lens you are attaching.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">* I have a Kiron \u00a0(Amazon) \u00a0for attaching older Nikon lenses to the camera) \u00a0And they work great! \u00a0Especially\u00a0he 200mm Micro Nikkor!<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Shoot Without Lens \u00a0Turn to On if you attach a manual lens via adapter other wise it should be off,<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0(be sure to remember and turn the focus selector on the bottom left front of the body to M for manual if you are using a manual focus lens)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">MF Assist \u00a0 I like Focus Peak White<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0(you can try them and pick the best for you!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>AE\/AF Lock Mode<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0 I have mine set to: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff; text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0On when pressing<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">AF-Lock Mode \u00a0 AF ONLY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Flash Compensation \u00a0 (Depends on situation)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Red Eye Removal \u00a0 OFF<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Movie Set-Up \u00a0 Haven&#8217;t fooled with it yet, I&#8217;m not a videographer<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\">IS Mode \u00a0 CONTINUOUS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99ccff;\"><strong>Wireless Communication \u00a0 For setting up Wireless which is very exciting! \u00a0With this camera and the Fuji App, gives you about the same features as Cam Ranger!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">FUNCTION SETTINGS:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">The 8th item down is FUNCTION FN SETTINGS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">This allows you to set the Function buttons for the things you do the most often, and is a great feature that makes using the camera much easier!!!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Just for the record here are my settings: \u00a0 Yours may be different!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Function 1 \u00a0 Acrtivate focus points<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Function 2 \u00a0 Self Timer<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Function 3 \u00a0 Close-up focusing Setting<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Function 4 \u00a0 DRV \u00a0(Bracket settings)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Function 5 \u00a0 \u00a0White Balance<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Function 6 \u00a0 \u00a0Face Detection Auto Focus<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>Color Space: \u00a0 sRGB \u00a0(best for Web and Ink Jet Printing)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>Some other thoughts:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">I&#8217;ve found the Velvia film simulation to be a little over saturated, except when shooting killer color on overcast day, then it rocks!!!!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Astia has become my favorite Color Simulation setting, the colors are rich and the overall image is slightly less contrasty. \u00a0Provia comes in second and the Monochrome setting are flat out crazy good! \u00a0I rarely need to use NIK Silver Effects Pro anymore if I get a monochrome out of the camera. \u00a0 My standard set up is BKT mode film simulations, So I get Astia &#8211; Provia \u00a0&amp; Monochrome of every single shot! \u00a0Hot dang!!!! \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">I shoot in Aperture Priority mode (Shutter Speed knob on\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">A<\/span>)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">This is a general tip: \u00a0The X-T1 has a great Dynamic Range in Auto, but it still is best to shoot on sunny days during the first two and last two hours of the day, and of course all day on overcast or rainy days. \u00a0 Contrast is harder to control when there are hard edged shadows, though there is an exception to every rule and strong contrast can be appealing for certain subject, but not all!!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>I hope these ideas will help you, the X-T1 is a very forgiving camera, but like all photographic instruments the better you know it, the better you can take advantage of it&#8217;s qualities!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Please share your thoughts here too&#8230;..<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Blessings,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>the pilgrim<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>O.K. Questions from my email!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>Question 1 \u00a0Can you describe how the color simulations are different?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>Yes, \u00a0Velvia is very much like the Fuji film Velvia, very punchy colors, rich saturation and high contrast, blacker blacks and deeper reds, oranges, yellows, and greens. \u00a0Provia is a more accurate portrayal of color. \u00a0Good rich color but not as punchy as Velvia. \u00a0Astia is a softer lower contrast color with rich deep color, just less contrast!! \u00a0The two film palates are very much like two of negative film emulsions from Fujifilm, I never shot either and don&#8217;t use them on the digital cameras. \u00a0For everyday stuff I shoott Provia and Astia, for overcast days and rich color I shoot Velvia. \u00a0All the monochromes are killer, choose the filtered ones based on subject matter.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>Question 2 \u00a0 \u00a0At what ISO do you become concerned about noise?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\"><strong>I always use the lowest ISO I can. \u00a0Having said that I feel comfortable using up to ISO 3200 without a problem, I do shoot at 6400 when I need to and even though there is noise it is just very fine and no color noise! \u00a0That is one of the most amazing things about the Fuji X System cameras! \u00a0Above 6400?
