Day 2: Oklahoma City, OK to Tucumcari, NM
I made it into Tucumcari, NM today and I’m staying at the Blue Swallow Motel tonight! Had a nice dusk sky and got a shot of the famous Neon Sign! During the day I hit the mid-Point of Route 66 and made a couple of images below!
A few interesting things along the way!
Tucumcari is known for some great murals depicting Route 66 lore, here were a few of my favorites!
Well gang, I’m tired, more Route 66, The Mother Road tomorrow!!!!!!
Blessings and sweet dreams……

What a super fun trip! Great images. Love traveling with you vicariously! Looking forward to tomorrow’s post.
It is a scouting trip for a tour next year!!! So far it is really fun!
Well I see you made it to the entrance to photo heaven. Tucumcari is an awesome place. Don’t miss the school sign with the big tail fin ! There are a bunch of motels and old gas stations also. There are little tidbits, like the murals everywhere you just have to look. Tucumcari is all about RT 66. Santa Rosa is not far from there, gather some info. You must shoot the train bridge and there are a few old churches that you will want to get. From this point on it will be sensory overload ! Enjoy and stay safe my friend !
Jimmy you really nailed it, it has been non stop since I arrived in Tucumcari, can’t wait of the sun to rise today!!!!
Following your trip with great interest in anticipation of my trip in May beginning in Tucumcari and west from there.
I hope my experience will help, call me after the trip for more advice!!!
Bill, a must do in Albuquerque is a meal at the Route 66 Diner on E. Central, just past the university. Central is Route 66. It is on the right as you head into downtown.
Did your SUV fit in your garage at the Blue Swallow? I suspect not.
Also, don’t forget to make some images at Tucumcari Towing on the west side of town.
Wonderful images so far. Thank you so much for sharing.
Look in today’s post!!!!!
Very nice shots today. You have inspired me to hit the road solo again on the motorcycle. I did this route back in 2006, but a little older now.
