Next Up – The Oregon Coast

After just as few days at home it’s on the road again, first as quick stop in Nashville for the Fuji X-T10 release, and then Tuesday back to the airport for a flight to Portland , Oregon for the Oregon Coast workshop with Jack Graham!  I’m really looking forward to shooting the coast with Jack, he really knows this region!  I’m trying to cut back my gear load for this trip and I’m taking the following:

1 – Fuji X-T1

1 – Fuji X-T10

1- Fuji X100T

The following lenses:  10-24   16-55   –  18-135   –   50-140   –   Nikon 200mm f 4 small telephoto

* I could probably leave the 18-135 at home, but I really love that lens and use it a lot!

That will give me coverage from 15mm to 300mm in just four lenses.  I will try to keep up enough energy to show you what we are shooting and keep you up to speed on using this range of lenses.

I’ve really been blessed this spring and have met a lot of great people, and had some great fellowship.  Please pray for our attendees, and Jack and I, we want to really give these folks a great experience!

In Him, Blessings,

  1. You’re heading toward my happy hunting grounds! But I go lighter: X-E2, X-E1, 18-55 (always on X-E2), 55-200, Fuji extension tube, 500D and Nikon 5T, polarizers on lenses, ND grads (plus a spare because they break), a bunch of cable releases (which also break), SD cards, extra caps, Fuji flash, extra batteries and compact charger and a Sirui KR-10 ballhead. All of this fits plus clothes and MacBook air fits in my $39 American Tourister Atmosphere rollaboard! The bag will fit even on small plane (under seat comfortably). Also carry a couple of hard drives in it, Eyelead sensor gel sticks, blower bulb and makeup brush (the latter helps brush dust off the camera bodies and lenses). Also gallon Ziploc bags (rain bonnets for camera/lens). Gitzo tripod and some miscellaneous stuff goes in a $5 Ikea nylon duffle. All carryon, no checked bags. Stuffed in between stuff are various and sundry “doo dads” plus car chargers, etc. I also carry inside the bag one of those $1 reusable grocery totes you can get at Target, Safeway, Wally World, etc. I have more gear, of course, and a larger bags, of course, but 90% of the time this is what I use! And all because of you, Bill, who turned me on to the Fuji gear.

That said, there are still limitations and while the Fuji gear is close in quality to my Canon stuff, it still has a ways to go but the tradeoff in size and weight is worth it.

So, you think that 18-135 is going to work out? Isn’t it nice to have friends who will let you borrow gear….

    • Bill Fortney says:

You bet, I’ve actually forgiven you, love that lens my friend!!!

      • Mike Roberts says:

Well, You’ve gotten me back already. I have the 90mm on preorder. I’m thinking it’s going to be nice having an X-shooter as a friend. Maybe he will let me borrow super secret Fuji stuff from time to time….

  3. Bill Fortney says:

Good choices, wish I could get myself to travel that lite!

  4. Peter Gilbert says:

Have you upgraded your X-T1 bodies to Firmware v4.0 yet? Hope to hear some feedback from you (plenty of birds to shoot at the coast in Oregon). Safe travels, and dress warm for the shore!

  5. Bill Pritchard says:

    Bill,

Why do you carry two lens which cover similar range? The18-135 and the 59-140. I am interested in your thought process

  6. Bill Fortney says:

It is odd isn’t it!!!! Actually if I’m walking any distance the 18-135 is a good all rounder, lighter and also covers more range. The 50-140 is even sharper and has more speed when I need it!

  7. HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN?
Cheeseburgers taste better with Tillamook cheese!
And if you are in Tillamook, they make a decent cheeseburger at the Tillamook Dairy Snack Bar.

  8. Bill Fortney says:

    I will check it out!!!!
