Stuff Baking in the Oven…..

At two thirds of the way through the current season of workshops it’s time to make some plans for 2016!  I’ve been thinking about this for a while and have decided to cut down the size of our workshop groups in 2016.  Next year the workshops and tours, except for Nashville, will be limited to only 8 attnedees.  I want to be sure that people get more individual help and there is more time to review more images from each student.

I’ve also noticed that our students are getting better and better, they are no longer beginners, and are solidly intermediate or advanced shooters. I want to start to spend a lot more classroom time exploring how to “see better” as a photographer, how to affectively compose images, and work on such things at “extraction” and advanced field techniques.

I also will spend the winter trying to find new and exciting locations that are, “more off the beaten path”, new places where few other workshop companies go!  The Badlands is a good start to head that way, and the Route 66 Tour is as well!

So if you are up for some great adventures stay tuned for a complete description of the coming season, and things to come.

Blessings,

the pilgrim

It may just be the “key” to a great experience and wonderful fellowship!

I like the sounds of this plan. I like the reduced number of folks, the emphasis on “visualization”, and advanced field techniques. I would also like to vote for an increase on workflow options and analysis. There are enough great shooters on the sessions I have been to that I would enjoy discussions on the relative merits of different workflows and tools.

    Just my 2¢ worth 🙂

Mike, I have been watching you guys for several years and I know what you are asking for and need! I certainly will teach my simplified workflow and some neat paths to better images, made more quickly! I think you look, you see, you realize what captured your attention. Then how to manage images, and post process for the maximum quality image. All of that and more will be part of the pathway to photographic excellence! Can’t wait to have you in that mission!

Amen on the workflow and extraction!

    Looking forward to it!

  5. What I’m looking forward to, (hoping to attend my first workshop this coming year) is the fellowship aspect of the workshops. I know that I always shoot better and have a better ‘eye’ when I’m able to be at peace, and look inward before I look outward through the viewfinder. I can’t imagine a better way to find that than what I’ve heard from others about your His Light Workshops!

I’m glad to hear that you are cutting back the number of the participants in your workshops. I know that I would like more one-on-one time, but I tend to go my own way out in the field because I know that you are busy helping others, and I don’t actively ask for help unless I am completely stuck on how my Fuji works. I would vote for less class time, actually, and help in the field with extraction (aka, working the shot). I get tunnel vision and have difficulty in generating a lot of compositions from a singular scene. And I have to echo comments from others about fellowship. I could travel on my own, but I would rather travel with a group and be around positive, happy people!
