That and several other western parks are definitely on my to-do list. Beautiful places. Can’t wait to see them in person 🙂

Forget the Internet and enjoy the landscape and fellowship. Your images and words will delight us when you’re not quite so preoccupied with marvelous scenery.

  3. Timing is everything. Great Zion sunrise (and presunrise) shots can be had right behind the park museum. Color and light changes rapidly. Also need to angle the shot so the weather station cabinet doesn’t show in your images. Basically park in front of the museum (a minute or two into the park on the left side of the road), hit the head, walk behind the building and out into the field a bit and you’re locked and loaded.

That’s where we shot Saturdaymorning, crowds on the bridge were terrible!

    • The bridge is almost useless much of the time and can even get a little dangerous, especially when NPS makes it about as far as you can go in that area without using one of the shuttle buses. Conversely, even during a workshop the behind the museum crowd is usually manageable but for the occasional dunce who moved forward and winds up in everyone’s image until he’s either tased or photoshopped out.

Do you mean the bridge(s) near Canyon Junction shuttle stop? Recently, I shot the classic (?) shot of the Watchman before sunset from I think the third bridge along the trail (back towards the museum and visitor center). Mostly that was to avoid the man-made dam structure in the picture, but also to try and avoid hikers and bikers – those bridges sure bounce around when someone walks on them!

As an aside, after my shoot I went back to the Junction shuttle stop to wait for the bus, and I saw a Tesla electric vehicle turning in the canyon road (I guess they were staying at the Lodge, so they had permission). I thought, how on earth do they recharge that car way out here? Then I learned there are charging stations available in the visitor center.

We don’t carry a taser, but sure know how to Photoshop!
