Friday stuff…………….

NUMBER ONE:  I have found a book that I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  This book by Chris Orwig is a must for any photographer that really does want to step up their game!  I was doing research as I start my second series of eBooks this winter and found this book by Chris.  It is a beautiful expression of the creative process and extremely liberating.  I will be quoting him in some of  my new offerings, but certainly would never try to duplicate his efforts, no sense in doing that, he has done it to well.  You can find this book in several forms on Amazon.

NUMBER TWO:  An explanation.  I just got and email from a person interested in a future workshop and they asked a very interesting question and it required a response, I liked that.  We often need to review our m motives and this was my response, just for the record the question was I also saw your Artists for Jesus blog. I’m not quite sure about your intentions there. Maybe you could expand on that.”

I have been a believer, born again, and filled with the Holy Spirit for many,
many years, and have always held fast to my faith.  In my personal and
professional life I have subscribed to the philosophy of asking myself
“What Would Jesus Do?” when approaching any decision.  Several years ago
after years of praying for a specific ministry, God led me to start writing a
blog, which has become known as the Pilgrim’s Chronicles.  It is my daily
sharing of what God is doing in my life, what He is teaching me and leading
me to share with others.  During this walk, as He has strengthened me, I
have had another desire, from Him, the stand up for Christ in my profession.
When Jordan Smith, the young man that won the Voice this year (who happens
to be from my home town of Harlan, KY) I was so impressed that his young
21 year old man stood so strongly for his faith and sung songs you would not
normally hear on such a show.  God honored that commitment on his part and
he is on his way to a highly successful career in music.

I had to ask myself the question, are you being as bold in your witness?  I
thought I was but felt to compelled, along with friends like Ricky Skaggs the
country bluegrass musician, Jim Haverstock, Ken Jenkins, all photo buddies,
and other friends to form this new organization.  Our sole purpose is to raise
the name of Jesus as we practice our craft, which we believe is God given and
to be shared in such a way as to honor Him.

Regarding the Artists for Jesus comment…I guess my opinion would be: There are many, MANY liberal-minded pro photographers out there (most are fairly liberal from what I’ve seen) and I see no reason at all why someone couldn’t come along and present a different line of thinking than the liberal viewpoint and not be ridiculed or thought of as being ‘odd’ for doing so. For now, we still have freedom of religion (not ‘from’ religion) and free speech, so people shouldn’t get all worked up if someone mentions the name Jesus. Some people seem to be more comfortable with a pro photog that offers nude photo workshops with some paid girl from the Model Mayhem web site than someone that would dare to say ‘Jesus’ in public. Maybe it’s just me, but I would feel rather strange taking nude photos of some stranger that was paid to show up and take her clothes off….but that’s just me 😉

      Jon,
I’m not sure the photographer that emailed me meant their comments as a put down, they went on to share about their own pretty devout walk, I think they just were curious, even if they had an odd way of asking. I just wanted to share the response as it actually helped me clarify the issue in my own mind. As to the nude photography, I always keep my clothes on when I shoot! Ha!

Sure, I understand. I suppose I was just speaking in more general terms about what I see going on in society today. I didn’t mean to imply the person that asked you had any bad thoughts about that. I guess I shouldn’t have gotten on my soapbox 🙂

Bill, I have found that jpeg’s just don’t give me the options that I want when I post process so I always shoot in the raw ……

Thanks for the info on the book — ordered today.

I was very interested in Artists Standing For Christ mentioned in an earlier post. Is it an actual organization? I haven’t been able to find it online. Your bold faith and beautiful photography are both an inspiration. Thank you.

It was just formed in December and is a non-profit with no dues, and as of yet not much organization except hundreds have pledged to serve Christ and want to be a part of it!

    Bill-
Thanks for the post. Regarding the book rec by Chris Orwig, thank you. I love the way Chris teaches. I’ve watched a few of his courses on lynda.com and they’re outstanding. As an educator myself, I always learn new ways to teach/present material from his teaching, and as a photographer, I learn even more from him.

Take care, and have a great Monday!
