Channeling My Inner Jay Maisel
Today we took the troops to the Charleston Fishing Docks for a morning shoot. I decided to go for color and graphics, Jay Maisel Style. When I was a very young photographer I studied the work of Jay and was greatly influenced by his vision of color, graphic design and simplicity. Hope you enjoy them!
So a feeble attempt at Jay, but I sure had fun!!!
Blessings,
the pilgrim

Excellent, Bill. I am am sure Jay would approve… unless you cropped something… continue having fun!
no cropping!!!!!
vey nice….as usual 🙂
After leaning towards monochrome for a couple of posts, you jump to very vivid colors and interesting textures with spectacular results. Thanks for sharing the images.
Very, very nice! You channel Jay Maisel very well! Were these with the X-Pro2? What lens(ses)?
Bill, were these shot down at Newport Harbor?
The tidal pools south of there near Yachats are fabulous?
Lovely colour. Just as an aside – what SD Cards do you recommend for the XT-1?
Awesome as usual Bill. Hard to believe a year since i was there with you and Jack. Shooting those old boats was awesome. Take care.
Since you got to Charleston, did you make it to Shore Acres?
Excellent photos Bill. I am a big fan of color and texture. Looked up Jay’s work. I am inspired by both of you.
LOVE these! I worked on the Seattle waterfront for 15 years, and I never tired of looking up and seeing a 600 or 800 foot ocean going vessel glide silently into berth. I still have photos that I took during those years with 35mm Ricoh XR-2S (still in my possession, but I never shoot with it these days. I came to love the industrial areas and working waterfront of Seattle, including Salmon Bay and Fishermen’s Terminal in Ballard, they are often my go to places for shots. I just went out last night and shot the Space Needle from Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill to test my new 100-400mm lens on my XT1, love it! If you were to run through the gallery on my photoblog, you’d see lots of shots of buoys, boats, crab pots, mooring lines etc… love the colors, textures.. I am a self-taught photographer and would love to have you critique some of my work if you ever had the time.
