People that are fortunate enough to have success in the music business or show business have a choice on how to use their fame.  Shouting vulagar profanities and breaking federal law by threatening a sitting president is one thing you could do, or, how about looking at what Dolly Parton has done!

Dolly Parton has been a longtime supporter of charities, especially those relating to literacy.

She established the Imagination Library in 1995, which sends one book per month to children from the time of their birth until they enter kindergarten.

She gave $500,000 in 2006 to Fort Sanders Medical Center for women and children’s health.

Her efforts to preserve the bald eagle through the American Eagle Foundation’s sanctuary at Dollywood earned her the Partnership Award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2003.

Dolly is the most honored female country performer of all time. Achieving 25 RIAA certified gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards, she has had 25 songs reach number 1 on the Billboard Country charts, a record for a female artist. She has 41 career top 10 country albums, a record for any artist, and she has 110 career charted singles over the past 40 years. All-inclusive sales of singles, albums, hits collections, paid digital downloads and compilation usage during her Hall of Fame career have reportedly topped a staggering 100 million records world-wide. She has garnered 7 Grammy Awards, 10 Country Music Association Awards, 5 Academy of Country Music Awards, 3 American Music Awards and is one of only five female artists to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award. Dolly was inducted as a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. And the litany goes on.

Dolly’s career has spanned nearly five decades and is showing no signs of slowing down. An internationally-renowned superstar, the iconic and irrepressible Parton has contributed countless treasures to the worlds of music, film and television.

After the recent devistating fires in the Smokies, she gave $1,000. per month to every family that was displaced and needed help for six months.

Screaming profanties, disrespecting your country, after a career of vulgar music or help others, your choice.

Blessings,

You know, Bill, in view of all the celebrities ranting and raving and embarrassing themselves, I am reminded of Johnny Cash’s old song “The One on the Right is on the Left.” Great song with great advice for entertainers. Here’s the pertinent verse:

“Now this should be a lesson if you plan to start a folk group
Don’t go mixin’ politics with the folk songs of our land
Just work on harmony and diction
    Play your banjo well
And if you have political convictions keep them to yourself.”

    I appreciate you, brother!

Amen, I could care less what entertainers think about this stuff, I care about what my next door neighbor thinks!

    Hey,

I must have missed your similar post on Ted Nugent… you obviously would have felt the same way. I guess it is a little different though cause as a woman, she should really learn her place in society (ie home.) Mr. Trump could “grab” her attention I imagine… lol. Ah well, celebrities right?

Do love your photography work. Thanks for sharing.

Actually I do feel Ted Nugent, Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks and the rest keep it to themselves, all great at what they do, but I don’t need their help with my politics or morals, and Sonny, no, them being women has nothing to do with it, Just so happens both Madonna and Dolly are women. I think it’s time we get over the election, I survived 8 years of Obama, now it’s the other sides turn to get over this election, we are all Americans, and it’s high time we act like it! Just for the record I’ve been married and madly in love with my wife for 47 years, and gusess what, she’s a woman!

The actions of the real stars speak much louder than their words. Those that have truly made a difference will be remembered long after they are no longer walking the earth. Those that are only serving themselves will be relegated to the dust bin of history or be remembered for the wrong things they did. Most of these stars are not celebrities. They are the postman watching over the neighbors on his delivery route, the neighbor that buys fruit they don’t need from the high school band fundraisers then gives the fruit to someone that needs it, the parents that come out to see the children are supported in their endeavors, someone that listens and gives encouragement when challenges seem to be overwhelming, and many others that contribute their time and/or financial support to make the world a better place. I have been blessed to know many of these stars.

All I can say is: “Thank you, Bill for your spot on comments and perspective on what’s important in our life on earth.”
