An amazing place…..
I arrived in Rapid City, South Dakota today via, Knoxville, Atlanta, and Minneapolis! I got into the park in the afternoon for a little scouting! The Badlands is definitely on my list for a future workshop, not sure when but we have to come here. The graphic nature of the landscape is utterly amazing! I hope you enjoy some of this afternoon’s take, I can’ wait o shoot it in morning light!!
Blessings,
the pilgrim

Sign me up for that workshop…… can’t wait to see more. Be Safe.
You would love this place, but then I wouldn’t like my own shots anymore!!!!!
But then, no place is safe from Jim Begley!!!!!
It’s so desolate it’s beautiful. I only spent a day there when I went but I was in awe!
I hope the morning shoot goes well.
Thanks Jarrod for your scouting info! It really helped me a lot, you are right this place is fantastic!!! Would love to shoot this place with you in the future!
….and to the emailer, no that is not me in a fur coat, it’s a prairie dog!!!!!!!
That would be great! I’m glad I was able to help.
The nearby Fort Pierre National Grasslands is a great hidden treasure location where you could branch off on a workshop in the area too. In the winter you get a lot of raptors hunting in the grasslands, and quite a few in other seasons too among other wildlife and things like old school buildings and abandoned ranches. More of a prairie feel than the Badlands. And the Oahe Dam (and lake behind it and islands in front of it) are great for landscapes, architecture, and wildlife that is the opposite of the Badlands (lakes and rivers) yet still close by.
I would love to help if you need someone local or a gofer to run and do things for you (I live three hours from Pierre, four hours from Badlands). I love to teach and I am good at bird photography if someone wanted a breakout session. My aunt and uncle own a hotel in Pierre and I am sure you could get a group rate. Also there are a couple bed and breakfast near the Badlands that would make great base camps (Circle View Guest Ranch and Triangle Ranch Bed & Breakfast).
