Roll with the punches…….
In a twenty-five year career of running workshops in the national parks, I’ve never had this problem! We’ve had snow, pouring rain, high winds, fires, but never kindergarden acting politicians…… Thankfully the Cleveland Metro Parks are wonderful and open for business! We are heading down to the Amish region today and I hope to have some good stuff to share with you tomorrow. We have a good group and everyone is excited including the leaders. Here are a couple of stream shots they will get to make Friday or Saturday.
This is a great area and I know we will have a lot of fun and make some memorable images. Please pray that I will be an effective teacher and help them in every way I can!
Blessings,
the pilgrim

This “government shutdown” has certainly come at an unfortunate time (as if there would be a better time?) at the outset of Fall color in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. However, unlike many of the National Parks, the Smokies is not completely shutdown. US 441, the main road from Gatlinburg, TN to Cherokee, NC through the Park is open as is the Gatlinburg Bypass which offers outstanding views of Mt. LeConte. Some parking areas along US 441 are blocked but many are open as are some of the primary overlooks like Newfound Gap and Oconaluftee. While the Park is oficially closed, fortunately there ar many ways into the Park along the Park boundaries. The Fall color looks like it will be outstanding this year and is now very good at the highest elevations and will progress down the mountains over the coming three weeks. Hopefully, the Park will “re-open” all access before the peak Fall color which should occur the last two weeks of October. At this point all we can do is keep shooting!!
I plan to head down next week!
Due to financial payments by the states of Tennessee and North Carolina and the counties of Sevier and Blount (Tennessee) the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is opening today (Wednesday) through Sunday at a cost of $300,500. Somehow it just doesn’t seem right that state and local governments should “bail out” the federal government but the local officials better understand the economic benefits, especially during October, and have a more passionate love of the Smokies, than do our national “leaders”. Beyond Sunday is anyone’s guess but I feel confident that the Park will now remain open. Pass on the word the Smokies are open!!
I’m employed by the Department of Defense as Lead Photographer at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri. We were told we couldn’t come to work even if we wanted too. Then we are told to come into work but not sure when we will get paid. What a mess! Remember this next election season; I’m voting for anyone who has never been to DC. It’s time to clean house in Washington; and return to a Government for the people.
OK I’m preaching…No matter who’s in DC God is in control amen.
