A Christmas List? Just a thought…….

10 years, 11 months ago 12

The image above sorta gives one view of the 2013 Christmas Season.  After an entire day of coverage on television yesterday of the Phil Robertson saga, the Obamacare debacle, NSA wiretaps, frightening Benghazi revelations, Iran’s Nuclear weapons program, and the sheer, unadulterated, panic in Washington as they realize the American public may have come out of their collective coma, and see what is being done to them, I would like to offer some suggestions for your Christmas list and New Year’s resolutions!

Demand that your Cable Company drop A&E or block it on your Dish or Direct TV Box.

Cancel plans for vacations to Disney World or the California Magic Kingdom (Disney is a major stock holder in A&E), and be sure to tell them why you’re canceling.  Just for the record, Disney has made previous major stands for the LGBT community, and bashed the Baptist church for their scripture based views.  But hey, have a Magical Day!

Buy Duck Commander Duck Calls as gifts for everyone on your Christmas list, no matter whether thy hunt or not.  Throw in a poster or coffee mug from Duck Dynasty too! Go by Walmart and clean them out of Duck Dynasty merchandise, trust me you can double your money!

Buy and wear a Duck Dynasty hat or T-Shirt.  Tell everyone who asks that you are standing with Phil and his family!

Write President Obama and demand he instruct the IRS to harass A&E with audits, delaying applications, and denial of tax status requests.  * (never mind, that’s ridiculous, that would be illegal!  Our President would never do a thing like that!  What was I thinking, targeting groups someone doesn’t agree with, never mind???!!!)

Go to local merchants who hire gay and lesbian people and demand they release them from employment because you find their beliefs repugnant.  * (Once again that is ridiculous, I mean would ESPN let someone go for saying a quarterback was being propped up in the press because he was black??!!  No wait a minute, they did do that!!  O.K., would a company fire a guy because he said he was Pro Life!!!  No wait a minute that just happened, saw it on Fox News this morning. This is confusing?  Do some research and see if you can find any example of someone being fired from their job because they were; Pro Abortion, Pro LGBT, a member of the Communist party, or anti Israel.  Come to think of it is it o.k. slander a Christian, or a Church?)

When Duck Dynasty returns to the air, on another network, set your DVR to tape every episode, turn all your TVs to that channel for each broadcast to make sure the ratings sky rocket!  Help us make A&E look like the idiots they are for ever firing the first shot in this culture war!

Build a live manger scene in the back of your pick up truck or better yet a flat bed trailer and pull it all over town parking it, legally, with a plugged meter in front of every government building in your region!  One hour per site.  See how long it takes for the ACLU to show up.  * (You’ve lost it young man, what are you thinking, honoring Christ at Christmas…..)

Donate toys and food to a local church or shelter, in the name of Phil Robertson.

Donate money to any organization that is actively standing up for the legal rights of Christians.

Study the voting records of all your Senators and Representatives, state legislature members and the Governor of your state, and in the next election reward them for their stands, or send them packing if they do not represent your interests and beliefs.

Please know that I have many gay friends, and I love them with Christ’s love, I do not judge them. As Phil said that is God’s job, not mine.  According to the teachings of my faith they are living in sin, but then I’m a sinner as well.  I have and continue to ask for God’s forgiveness for my sins, what others do is their decision, but my life is about encouraging others to get right with God.

In the spirit of Christmas I am suggesting and offering a truce with those who’s views I oppose and who oppose my views.  I think the Liberal, Progressive groups have one thing exactly right, let us be tolerant, and non judgmental of each other’s differences.  You’re right, I’m fully in, but in fairness, you start first…….

IMPORTANT NOTE:  It has been brought to my attention that products with the tag line Duck Dynasty are actaully benefitting A&E, Duck Commander products directly benefit the Robertsons!  Just thought you might want to know!!!

Blessings,

For as long as I can remember, I heard people exclaim “I may not agree with you, but I will defend your right to say it.” That “was” the American way. We had freedom to express our differing views and exercise free speech. We could disagree with each other, sometimes vigorously, but never lose respect for on another as individuals. It seems that saying is no longer valid in our country. If you now disagree, you are accused of generating ” hate” speech. Sad. My email to A & E has been sent.

I was unaware, of issues there?

    • Anna says:

There was an uproar not too long ago on the issue and it’s a yearly thing it seems. Not a&e that aware of but lgbt plans events and bashes those that have different views. Not necessary dolly wood but that’s where it takes place usually one weekend a year and I know of other instances on he issue.

  4. Rodney McKnight says:

The hypocrisy of it all is that these people do not have the guts to bash or threaten Islam-one of the fastest growing false religions of our time and probably the most un accepting and intolerant of them all. Oh well, we were never promised a life with out persecution were we Bill? I’m with you on all of the above! Let’s voice our opinion and beliefs when ever and where ever we can. Thanks Bill!!!

    • the pilgrim says:

You know Rodney, you’re right, Jesus said they will hate you because you are mine. I did not Think I would live long enough to see true persecution of Christians here as it has been for years in other countries! If I’m around much longer I suspect it will start here too. Harry Reed called Tea Party members, “Societal Arsonists!” Translation, they don’t want me and my compatriots to do whatever we want. We are at the edge of a culture war! I’m glad is in control, we need to stay on our knees before Him!

  5. Wade says:

Bill, I love your photos and usually love your writing on this site, but I have so many objections to what you just wrote, I will only note a few:

First, why so much anger over this relatively minor incident? This is a minor brouhaha over a multimillionaire reality TV star. No matter what the outcome, Phil Robertson and his family will live very comfortably. There are instances of real religious persecution out there, and this ain’t it. It makes Christians look small and petty to wave this type of thing around as an example of persecution.

Second, if you are going to boycott companies like Disney that have policies that you don’t morally agree with, then you may as well boycott all companies and live in a cave. Are you aware that Walmart, whom you recommend, recently approved of benefits for same sex partners? (I personally think that is a good thing.) I guess there goes buying Duck Dynasty Gear at Walmart. For that matter, whether you use a Windows or Mac computer to write this blog…are you aware that both Apple and Microsoft have very progressive policies towards employee equality and the LGBT community? As does Google, as does just about every tech firm? So you may as well ditch your computer and the internet as well. I bet Fujifilm has policies that you wouldn’t agree with, so you may as well ditch your camera gear. So much for not judging.

I notice someone posted about Dollywood actually allowing gay people to attend their parks in a yearly event. The response was that maybe Dolly Parton “caved.” (As if Dolly Parton herself actually managed the parks…she probably doesn’t have a clue what goes on there most of the time.) What are they supposed to do? If a group wants to legally pay to attend the parks, rent out facilities, etc…then it would be wrong to discriminate against them. It’s not called “caving”…it’s called equal rights.

And why is it the worst thing for companies to actually not discriminate against the LGBT community? That is a good thing. Do we want a society where LGBT people are treated as second class human beings? Where is the morality in that?

And we do live in a secular society and that too is a good thing, as opposed to a theocracy.

Why not worry about companies paying fair wages to employees, or treating them with proper dignity? Why not worry about companies who break the financial laws? Why not just worry about the pure greed that exists in the boardrooms of many corporations. There are plenty of sins mentioned in the Bible, if you want to be complete about it.

Finally, since when did so many conservative Christians become the angry ones? Jesus actually asked for forgiveness for those who tortured and executed Him. He told us to love our enemies, and to offer the other cheek if we were slapped. That’s pretty radical stuff and the most powerful witness. So why react with such anger and confrontation over such a petty thing? Too many conservative Christians react with this confrontational spirit whenever something minor happens that they disagree with. Jesus never told us to fight the “culture wars”…and He certainly didn’t worry about such things when He walked the earth. Jesus told us to overcome evil with good; love is to be our response.

I for one am not going to allow this in any way to spoil my Christmas, or worry one bit about the Robertson family. They will be just fine. And instead of throwing my money away on Duck Dynasty trinkets, I’d prefer to use it a bit more wisely, thank you very much. The Robertsons don’t need the money, and I know many great causes that do.

Thank you for allowing me to express my views. I know your views are from the heart and offered with the best of intentions. I just wanted to present another perspective. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

Thanks for taking the time to so eloquently express your feelings, and I think you have made some very good points.

I agree that what is happening with Phil certainly does not rise to the level of the kind of persecution that Christians around the world.

Your second point is also well stated and for the most part true. If we boycott every organization that has offended us with their actions, we might as well stay home. Neither do I want to reward
Companies that have policies that fly in the face of my faith. Let me be very clear, I do not want any company to not hire people from the gay community, to not give them the same benefits of any other employee. I was unaware and misunderstood what happened at Dollywood, I think gays have just as much right to attend Dollywood as anyone else! I thought what happened there was something completely different, I apologize for missing that point. You are also right that there are plenty of sins to go around in the boardroom, and if you went back through my blog entries for the past year you would find I’ve called them out too.

You are absolutely right that my rants are a far cry from what Jesus said hanging on the cross! I have never claimed that I was anything other than a fallen man, trying to be what He wants me to be, failing often. Let me try to take another swing at this, since in your eyes I’ve struck out at my last two times at bat!

O.k. You are always welcome to express your feelings, and I have learned from your thoughts.
This is where I am several days later. I do not hate gays or any part of that community. I know that Christ died for them every bit as much as He died for me. I lost my cool because a man that holds my same belief, based on biblical teachings, which is the foundation of my faith, was punished for simply stating his beliefs, In affect our society, as shown in A&E’s response is that it’s super cool to be in the LGBT community and we should never say anything critical of them, or hurtful to them, but we can tell those despicable Christians to just shut up! My fear is that this kind of response to someone of my community expressing the tenants of our faith, is punishment, if we say no sweat, how much more will the world get emboldened to step ip to real persecution??!!

I feel you have inferred something that us not true of me, that I hate gays, want them mistreated, and am intolerant of anyone that does not believe as I do! Let me make this as clear as I can, I am a sinner, I’ve fallen short of what God desires of me! When I realize what I’m doing that displeases Him I stop, genuinely repent, and ask for forgiveness! That is what any sinner, of any sin, must do to receive His forgiveness! If I’m a thief, ( back to my original example), and say “a thief is what I am, and stop calling me a sinner!!!!” Sadly, there is no foregiveness from God for unconfessed sin. Anyone is free to continue to sin and thumb their nose at God, it just hurts me deeply when I think what Jesus injured so that we may be free of the affects of sin. I have to admit that it hurts me deeply when as a Christian I reach out to anyone that needs to accept God’s love and forgiveness, and their response to me is you biggot, you judge mental mean person, you can go to h—!

Did I get a little too excersized about this? Probably, but this is the beginning of two sides on an issue really being at odds, I pray it ends with peace and forgiveness, but I fear it won’t

Merry Christmas and thanks again for your contribution to the dialogue!
