The value of hand held shooting…..
One of the things I’ve loved about the Fuji X system is the incredible performance at high ISOs! Because you can shoot at 1600, 3200 or even 6400 without excessive noise (none up to 1600), you can, in a pinch, shoot hand held!! Today driving around the island, on the wrong side of the road, well at least by the way we drive back in the lower 48 states, getting shots was often only possible if you pulled of the side of the road and rolled down the window for a grab shot! The image above and he next few where all hand held at higher ISOs!
I was really concerned to come on this trip without an L bracket from RRS, but one is not available yet, however I put a little plate from Kirk made for point an shoots which has allowed me to use a Arca-Swiss ball head (RRS) for some shooting. Truthfully I’ve been very pleased with the sharpness of all he hand held shots with the X-T1, and most of these are with the 55-200 which also has a great Optical Image Stabilization system!
One more note, struck up a conversation with a gentleman at the pool today, a man named Norm Pike, from Rochester, New York, and a former Kodak guy from years back, and we had a great conversation, and turned out he is a brother in the Lord, and I got to meet his family! Thank you Lord for the wonderful people you bring into our lives, God is truly good! Was nice to meet you Norm!
Tomorrow it’s down to the docks to try and find some interesting boats!
Blessings,
the pilgrim

Been reading your blog for several years. Love it. Should have told you this way before now. You have been an inspiration to me photographically and spiritually in many ways. Your style and focus on Americana type subjects and creative composition have been helpful to me as I go about the Blue Ridge Mountain and Piedmont Region of Virginia and North Carolina; always by myself, but never truly alone because I am guided by the good Lord along my way. Afterwards, I give Him thanks for being with me. I want to say thanks to you also for the above mentioned inspiration you have provided to me and thousands of others. Cheers!
Cheers right back at you Michael! The praise, glory, and honor all go to Him! I’m just so thankful to be able to live for Him. He has blessed me so immeasurably, and the road has been a pleasure, as you know, with Him by my side! Hope we can meet up some day, we are having a His Light Workshop right in your backyard, around Grandfather Mountain in May!
Funny who you can meet on a trip. Love hearing stories like that.
Me too!
Bill, your on vacation with your wife……put the camera down slowly and back away…… the title to this post should be the value of holding hands ! ! !
Honestly I’m keeping shooting to a minimum, or at least for me, yes Ken I’ve been doing a lot hand holding, but that was a good point!
The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask. You mentioned l bracket in the post and I’ve been googling for a while and still can’t seem to come up with what I’m looking for. I’m new to l brackets and they should be here Monday. My question is, I have a canon 70-200 2.8 is ii and when mounting on tripod do I just use the l bracket and camera or do I need a plate for the lens tripod ring as well? I ordered my l brackets from really right stuff. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
