Yes, the times they are a changing………

The image above was shot a little while back on my one year plus journey as a Fuji X System user.  I’ve been singing the song of the coming mirror-less  revolution for well over two years.  One of the websites I visit often is the Luminous Landscape, and I was interested to find the video for which I’ve provided a link below.  I have enjoyed the reports provided by Michael Reichmann on his website.  For those of you that have been following my thoughts, you will enjoy this conversation between Michael and Kevin Raber.

I have to be honest, it was good to hear the song I’ve been singing for some time now!  Enjoy!

Blessings,

I will post through the week from Las Vegas.

Thank you so much for singing the praises of a mirrorless system. I can see switching over in the not too distant future. As I age, it is getting more and more difficult to manage the weight of the DSLR systems, as much as I love them.

Yes the mirrorless systems are GREAT!

I was 100% decided upon the Olympus system until I started reading Bill’s Blog as well as Tony Sweets. In fact I went back and forth between the Oly EM-1 and the Fuji XT-1 for weeks and weeks. Finally deciding due to Bill’s rants and Fuji brainwashing of my mind….LOL!

Thanks Bill! And then I had to add the Nikon 300….thanks again Bill!

But I also. love to shoot macro and have the Fuji 60 macro but have yet to unbox it, yep it is still sealed. Not having the 1:1 macro capability has been bugging me and that is the reason I have not broken the seal on the box. This past week I got a great deal on an Olympus EM-1 and will more than likely trade in the Fuji 60 macro for the Olympus 60 macro as this lens does 1:1, is weather sealed and since it is a M43 system that 60 macro will act like a 120mm macro and that is a lot better working distance.

So now I think I have the best mirrorless system out there with both the Oly EM1 and the Fuji XT-1.

    Thanks Bill!…Tony…..And Rob Sheppard

  3. My gut tells me that the next photo “evolutions” will be with the mirror less cameras and also with making lenses smaller, faster, lighter and sharper by harnessing digital technology. Back in 2003 Michael and I were presenters at Grandfather Mountain. I demonstrated some of the beginning capabilities of digital imaging while Michael was pretty much branded as a heretic by at least half of the auditorium after he pronounced that film was dead. A few years later almost all there were shooting digital. I think Fuji now represents the best compromise between size and image quality. That could change with increased competition. My gut also tells me that Canon could be the gorilla in the room when and if it decides to take mirror less seriously. Or it could be on the outside looking in if it doesn’t.

    • Bill Fortney says:

I think that is a very good prediction!

      • I also predict that when the 7D II is announced, perhaps this week, I may pass on getting one the first day out (unlike the 7D, 50D, 40D, 30D, 20D, 10D and D60…wow, I gave them a lot of $$). Ultimately I will but I’ve waited so long that I’ve kind of lost some interest except for wildlife photography. Meanwhile, I am generally pleased with the image quality of the smaller X-E2 and X-E1 for just about everything else, including highlight recovery. The 7D was probably one of the best cameras Canon ever marketed and the fact it’s still good after five years (and one substantial firmware upgrade) says a lot. But after this long the new 7D II has to be an inspiration, not a yawn.

Bill, I’ve been a Nikon shooter since 1975. Twenty-seven months ago, I purchased an Olympus Mirrorless 4/3 system and haven’t looked back. I still have a D800e and several Nikkors, but haven’t used them for some months now. Like you, I’ve been singing the praises of mirrorless on my blog, The Wandering Lensman, for a long time. As good as the Fujis and Olympus/Panasonic cameras and lenses are today, they will only get better and better with each successive generation.

    The future is now!

Bill, as you know, I went through a difficult process of deciding to dump my Nikon system and purchase the Fuji X-T1 about a month ago. With your encouragement I got the 10-24, 18-55, and the 55-200 lenses. After a little over 30 days of using this system, I’m a very satisfied Fuji owner. Last week I did some of my first large printing of some of the new images. My 20×30 landscapes are exquisite in both color and detail! These guys talk about not printing over 13×19. Well guess what, a well focused 16meg image shot through Fuji glass is amazing. My advice to others on the fence is sale your DSLR while the used price market is still good or you might just find yourselves with some very expensive paper weights. The switch is on.

I’m finding that the time it takes to record a picture to the memory card is rather long on the X-T1. What memory cards do you recommend?

    Thanks, Fred

I’m using 633X Delkin cards. I’ve used Delkin for years an had no failures, and they are very fast, they have a 1.000 speed coming can’t wait to try it. Keep in mind I shoot almost exclusively jpegs!
