Would You Believe???!!!

I shared the other day that I hope to get to New Haven for a shot at Louis’ Lunch, well it’s not to be, I just don’t have time and they are closed on Monday when I do have time and am flying home.  But last night while sitting in the hotel I thought I might Google, “the Best Burger in Alcoa”  where the Knoxville Airport is located.  I usually go to Five Guys and they are not bad at all, in my Top Fifteen, but as chance would have it, (I actually don’t believe in chance), I got a hit, the plac ethe local really like is the Hot Rod 40’s Diner, sounded good to me, so off I went and was overwhelmed!  I will save you the suspense, it tied as the best Cheeseburger in America!!!!!!  This place has it all: enough memorabilia to run a His Light Americana Workshop in the building, a great waitress, back to her in minute,  the burger was perfect exactly as I ordered it!   10 oz of great beef, cooked to perfection, I had to do a little seasoning myself, but hey, no sweat.  The shoe string fries and home-made potato chips (no I didn’t eat them all!), were great.   The atmosphere was pure, down home, “What can I get you sweet heart, down home, southern warmth!”

My waitress, Daniella, certainly held up her end of the bargain, she was friendly, got the order exactly right, (can’t tell how seldom that happens!), and took very good care of me!  Gotta love Tennessee folks!

So if you’re ever in Alcoa and want one of the best burgers in America, drop by Hot Rods 50’s Diner!  Enjoy some of the fantastic memorabilia!!!!

Some friend you are, holding out on me, think of all the Five Guys burgers I could not eaten and gone here!!! O.K. just kidding, but glad to know we agree on a burger!! Unlike a diner from the past!

  4. Used to eat at the BelAir when I was in Knoxville – straight across from the airport but they closed about 4 or 5 years ago. The hamburgers were outstanding and they weren’t afraid to take it off the grill just a little early (yum). They had a Chevy Bel Air sawed down the driver side from just inside the headlight to inside the taillight pristine condition. I am wondering if Hot Rods are the same people because of the decorating… I will get that checked out. Knoxville is home base for our ministry Vine International (www.vineinternational.org). You do all right as a food blog brother. heh heh.

    Bill,

I attended your presentation at NECCC this past weekend and enjoyed both meeting you and your presentation a great deal. The way in which you presented the material and your personality worked extremely well for the audience. Your information was excellent and listening to your stories of experiences was wonderful.

If you don’t mind, I would love to stay in touch with you going forward and have some misc. chit-chats whenever possible. Sorry you were unable to stop by New Haven. Time never seems to be on our sides these days – what with everyone being so busy, etc.

Love your website. Love your galleries.

I too am a cancer survivor – throat and neck this year – spent the last six months getting radiation, chemo and recoup efforts. Fortunately, the recent PET scan came back negative. With any luck and God’s good graces, it will continue to remain that way.

Again, would love to stay in touch. Stay well; stay safe; and, stay in touch.

    Sincerely,

    Paul
