….and then, I did it again!

One of the things about being a photographer is experiences alter our perceptions!  Recently I have been wanting to carry just as few key lenses and keep it light!  Then I did the workshop in Nashville and we shot a lot of different subject matter, and I constantly found what I wanted was back in the SUV or at the hotel!!!  Well I missed some opportunities because, well I didn’t have what I need with me.  When I shot Nikon, carrying everything meant forty pounds, maybe even more!!!  That was not possible, but with the Fuji X System I can actually manage to carry all the lenses in a small backpack that ways only 10.5 pounds.  So what can you put into a Lowepro Flipside Sport 10L AW?

So my next trip, up to Shaker Village, I hope I will find  that this is the way to be prepared, we will see!!!???

Let me take a moment to express my deepest appreciation to the great folks that joined us in Nashville, what a wonderful group!!  A very special thanks to Ricky for being what he always is;  a super star, loving , kind, and a kick to hang out with!! My incredible team, Jim, Snake, Vinny,  Bob, the incomparable Nick Coury, and our newest and wonderful KelbyOne friend, Pete Collins.  But most of all, the blessings of a loving God, who once again brought some strangers together. and unleashed His Holy Spirit on us all!

Blessings,

So…..what’s the point of owning a few dozen bags, and backpacks if you can’t rearrange them!

Wow Bill, 10 1/2 pounds! Man, does that sound good. Too bad I am so wedded to my Canon gear — way too many lens to try and replicate. I’m afraid I would take a bath on trying to switch systems at this point but your numbers sure look awful good to my old back.

You indicate you are using a BH55-LR head and was wondering if that was originally for the heavier gear or do you feel that the 55 is a better approach that the 40 (which is rated at a conservative 18 lbs)? It seems like the 40 would be a better match for the Fuji gear.

I’m embarrassed to say I have two BH-55 LRS, a 40 and a 30!!! I don’t use the BH-55 because of it’s weight rating but just because I’m so used to it’s ergonomics and how securely it lock down, which for close-up work is invaluable. When I age a little more I may have to give it up, and move down!

You probably have a few years before the old body will demand, down sizing!

That’s crazy. I thought the whole purpose of “traveling’ light” was to travel light. Yes, comparing a Nikon system at 40# to around 11# is one thing, but I think that you and many others, myself included at times, are justifying “only” 11 lbs when it could be much lighter. Just because we don’t carry 40# anymore, doesn’t mean we have to carry 11, or 15, or 20. That, to me is the purpose of the my X-T1 and three lenses: 18-55, 35, and Zeiss 12mm. Light Travel. Keyword: Light.

    Greetings Bill-
In the past few months you have been kind enough to respond to some questions that I have had about equipment.
With a great deal of encouragement from my wife I got an X T-1 as a “self” birthday gift. I have been using a D700.
I took the first outdoor photos this morning and I am so pleased with the results. The color and dynamic range are spectacular. I got the kit lens, and plan to add the 50-200 and the wide angle over the next month.
Thank you for your thoughtful blog and message.
