Running to the cross…….

10 years, 1 month ago 6

I had the honor of attending a church service yesterday with my son Wesley and his family.  The Grey First Baptist Church has been allowing Wesley’s youth football team to practice on their activity field and it has led to an interesting story.  As it turns out the field has a small hill and at the top is a white cross.  Anytime someone makes a mistake in practice they are told to, “run to the cross”!  Throughout most practice sessions their is steady stream of players running up the hill to the cross and then back down.  At the end of each practice Wes has the entire team run up the hill to the cross, including the coaches, where they kneel, and recite the Lord’s prayer.

I was really proud of Wes for influencing his young players in this way.  The pastor at church preached on Run to the Cross, sharing that story.

That sermon actually sums up what we must all do if we hope to survive this life, run to the cross!

Blessings,

  1. What a fabulous life lesson — when you make a mistake, run to the cross. There’s more to that than many of us probably are willing to admit — even if we don’t think we need it!

I saw a sign on the door of a counselor at Marquette University, a Jesuit priest, that said: “If you have problems, stop in and talk about them. If you don’t. stop in and tell me how you do it.”

Great door sign!!! One of my favorites was on the door of Bob Gilka the Director of Photography at National Geographic who was known to be a terror with new shooters, His said, “Wipe knees before entering….”

  3. OMG — In my early days as a photographer I had a door sign: “DARKROOM – KEEP DOOR CLOSED OR ALL THE DARK LEAKS OUT.” So one day I was loading Tri-X on the reel when the phone rang. Instinctively I turned the light on to answer it and, realizing what I had just done, answered accordingly. That’s a mistake you make only once.

Bill I love your work and just purchased a Fuji XT1 coming from a Nikon D800. Your photos have amazing color and I was wondering are you shooting Raw or Jpeg and what film simulation are you using. They all are so vivid. Have you written any articles on how you have the camera settings and how you post process.

Bill I’m sorry one other question what Nikon mount do you use on the XT1? Do Nikon AF lens work on the camera with the mount. I understand that they won’t AF but will they manual focus. For Instance the Nikkor 300 F4?
