Two lenses on the Oregon Coast……..
When I was preparing to go out to Portland to meet Jack Graham and do the Oregon Coast workshop I was really excited to shoot his beautiful region that Jack knows so well! I’ve shot the last before but I knew Jack would know the best spots, and he did!!!! I packed three bodies and four lenses, the 50-140, the 18-135, the 10-24, and a 200mm Nikkor to get my 300 mm lens. After the first two days I had not taken anything out of the bag but the 18-135 which remained firmly attached to my X-T1 and a few times the X-T10. I did use the 10-24 on a few occasions, but the rest, including the much lauded 50-140 were unused!!!! Honestly, I could have shot the entire trip with the 18-135! Only when I needed an extreme wide lens, (inside the lighthouse, and some ferns on the forest floor) did I pull out the 10-24.
It was exceptionally liberating to have a single camera and lens and produce such a great variety of work! Because I have my X-T1 and=X-T10 set up to produce Velvia, Provia and monochrome with a red filter I also got a variety of images, some of which let me allow my inner “Jay Maisel” to surface! Even the close-up images were made with the 18-135 without any accessories!!!! Thanks Mike!! What fun, hope you enjoy these;
More later!
Blessings,
the pilgrim

Liberating!! Bill, isn’t it nice, especially given your and my shoulder situations, to travel so lightly? I did 3 weeks in Russia and the Baltic with the 18-135 on my XT-1, and my 10-24 on the XE-2 available in my messenger bag. Thank you, Thank you for turning me onto this wonderful system. These look great. I’m anxious to do Oregon again sometime. We had a week there in July a couple of years back, and the ‘Marine Fog’ shielded the entire coast the whole time.
Great images. God bless you.
Brad
Thanks Brad, glad you are enjoying this wonderful, lighter, better way to travel!!!!
wow!!
That’s what I was thinking looking through the lens!!!!
I second Mike’s comment.
Thanks David!
Pretty much the same story here. I use the 18-55mm and 55-200mm all the time with two bodies. Wouldn’t use the 10-24 enough to justify it but make someday a third party option will come along.
But, enough of this camera talk. WHAT ABOUT THE CHEESEBURGERS????
Didn’t find anything special on the coast, but then, was too busy to eat much!
Beautiful shots! Love the color vibrancy especially. I absolutely adore my 18-135mm. Even though I brought 5 lenses to your Smokies workshop in April, I only used the one lens! It is just so versatile. Hope you get some needed rest now that the latest series of workshops are completed.
Beautiful photographs Bill !! You were really in “the zone” when you took them!!
Wouldn’t have believed you would have left the primes back home – but WOW these are great! Maybe send all my primes back home (well except the 56) and just go easy with this zoom. Looking good Doctor!!
Great images Bill. Those images really are pushing me closer to purchasing an 18-135mm to use as a walk around lens for the X-T10. Have a blessed 4th of July!
