Going way back!!!!
I got down to the Smokies today to get things set for our Faithful Friends arriving tomorrow. Driving over from Maryville, I saw a great used car place specializing in collectables and couldn’t resist photographing a terrific painted wall! Then later in the day i drove back over to Alcoa, Maryville’s sister city and ate at one of my favoprite burger joints in the region, Hot Rod’s 50s Diner! They have some of the best 50’s neon around and I love the piece of Marylyn Monroe in the famous movie scene from Some Like It Hot!
I’ve really enjoyed getting things ready to hav ea great time with these friends! Conditions are great in the Smokies, the streams have good water, and the weather promises to give us a real variety of light! Thanks for your prayers, but don’t stop now!
Blessings,
the pilgrim

I could spend all day just shooting that amazing wall. 🙂
Me too!
Joe DiMaggio who rarely went on set of any of Marilyn’s movies was brought to the set the day that scene was filmed by a writer who was aware that the scene was going to be filmed and wanting to see Joe’s reaction. Joe who had very traditional values and really didn’t want Marilyn working was not pleased by what he saw. The next day Marilyn supposedly was seen hiding a black eye, the divorce soon followed. At least that is what was reported in the book ”DiMaggio: Setting the Record Straight” by Morris Engelberg.
Every time I see that image it kind of makes you sad that someone would manipulate others to get a response, story at the expense of others. The image is so iconic that even if Joe wasn’t at the filming I am sure once he saw the image it would have provoked a response from him regardless that may have resulted in the end of their marriage.
The power of an image, the choices one makes !
Yes, and so many wrong choices, even when they make a career, they don’t make a life.
Bill,
I love the wall and oyur images of it, but for the record the Marylyn Monroe image with the dress is from “The Seven Year Itch” another Billy Wilder film. 🙂
Sorry about that, you are right, haven’t watched those film very much.
