Why certain things?

It seems odd, but certain things are attractive to me, and one of them is old bottles.  When I got an email the other day from Raymond Jabola, he shared some images he shot at the Law Railroad Museum in Bishop, California, a spot we will take our group next month.  I loved the shots and found my self really anticipating getting to shoot them!  These bottle were on as shelf in an old restaurant we stopped in for lunch in New England, once again I was jazzed to see them and shoot them.  As I think about someday leaving my day job, and chasing old things like these bottles, I know they will become one of my favorite subjects.  You saw last week when in St Augustine, I found an old pharmacy and shot guess what, old bottles!

I’m glad we do not all gravitate to the same things, it sure makes photography a lot more fun, seeing how other people see the world!  Wednesday I fly out to Norfolk for the International Symposium on Aviation Photography.  Yet another subject I really enjoy.  I’m thankful that God has given me so many varied interests.

Tonight my heart is heavy, I want to ask for your prayers, I am visiting an old friend soon, he is just about the same age as myself, sadly he is battling cancer and it’s pretty serious.  I want to comfort him and I want to share the  most important information I posses, I want to do it in the right way, please pray that I do.  I’m never worried about what people will think of me, I’m only concerned that they get God’s message of love.  I know it is in God’s hands just as my friend is, but I just want him to hear what my Heavenly Father has for him!  I’m honored to serve Him and thankful to have such Good News to share. I always feel so much better knowing you guys are praying for His will to be done!

Be blessed,

the pilgrim

I’m praying, Bill. I am thankful that you are not the kind of person to keep your faith “bottled” up.

    Bill,
As you know I am a cancer survivor, in fact I wrote about the Cancer Relay for Life on my blog that I did last Friday. I will be praying for you as you go to share the most important message in the world that will alter his eternity if he only receives it. As you go, be reminded that the Lord loves him more than you do and isn’t willing that any should perish. Thanks for your obedience and for inviting us to share in your visit.

I will be praying for your friend, Bill. So much cancer going around for both people and our pets. I did photography for our dear friend who is battling stage IV breast cancer at the big Susan G Komen cancer walk here in Sacramento this weekend. Then the next day did the photography coverage for the Splash Dog dock diving event on Sunday and met with so many of my friends who’s dogs are also battling this disease. Lucy was there with us and everyone was happy to see her–she’s still hanging in there and we’re grateful for every day we have with her.

I know how much/how close this is to your heart. My thoughts and ESPECIALLY my prayers are with you, my friend. God Bless.

Thanks Howie, it’s often hard to understand why these dear ones are struck with this awful disease, but then we know everything works for our good if we love Him, and we must rest in that knowledge!

    Hey Bill,

Sometimes we struggle with the matter of loss. Things we handle pretty well, but friends and loved ones are a very different matter to use.

Some of these losses are really tough, as the loss of a wife (I was widowed twice), or the loss of our parents (Lost them too).

There are the loss of friends that are particularly difficult as when I lost my dog Wishy. He was so good, a true companion during the loss of my wife, my father, and my mother. I have a lot of amazing shots of him, but this one, though seemingly somewhat blurry is an enhancement to the effect I was trying to get, which was to turn him into an abstract image. I actually think that this was quite effective.

    This was my friend Wishy.

Another friend I lost to cancer was Eddie. At the age of fifteen, he lost both legs though he never gave the impression that he was handicapped. He played a mean guitar, and was a great photographer. He had a gift for working with children and encouragement.

Both of these wonderful friends and encouragers have left me now. God had appointed and annointed these friends to help, bless, and encourage so many, and especially me in my time of need.

Bill, I hope your friend is such a friend. Whether he lives or dies, encourage him to be such a friend to everyone around him. I hope that he is a Believer. If he is, perhaps you could take a little olive oil with you, pray for him, annoint him with oil to the service of The Lord and give him encouragement to give himself as a servant of the King, now, for as long as he lives, and forever.

By the way, we are praying for you.

    Blessings,

    Rob

Praying that the Holy Spirit will speak through His servant. These opportunities are the reason He has kept us here. Also cherish the time with your friend.
