Return engagement…..
In the process of buttoning down the Nikon years and traveling to see and me with important customers, and friends, I got to drop by Old Car City and do a little shooting. This is one of my favorite places to shoot in the world. It really tests your ability to see and capture graphics, and I always come back from there with a renewed excitement about photography! Today I had a little while to really just concentrate on the things I love the most about Old Car City, color, and graphic design! Today I really felt it, and I was in the zone, I hope you agree! Here is some of the captures from this morning.
As I walked around finding one thing after another that got me excited, the best excitement of all was the memory of all the great times with my buddies at this great place. I took a few minutes at the SFT grave site and remembered how so many people buried their lies!!! What a powerful thing to happen in a workshop! What an honor to run with such a great crowd and have so much fun!!! Thanks, Jim, Snake, Chuck, RC, Raymond, Jim H., John W., and all the rest of our merry gang!!!
Can’t wait to get back here again!!!
Blessings,
the pilgrim

Standing at the SFT site with you and all the other His Light men and women was an experience I will never forget. The changes from that day and the guidance of His Light made Old Car City much, much more than a workshop. We gathered for the photography and He led us to a place of fellowship and commitment. Love and best wishes for the coming new chapter of your life.
Jim, the photography has been wonderful, your friendship and brotherhood priceless!
Well said Jim, both visits were life changing experiences! So glad that God has crossed all of our paths!
Amen to that my friend!
That looks like such a great place. Hopefully I can make it down there someday. Thanks!
Hope you can!
Great post and images. I’ve been to Old Car City twice and really enjoyed both trips. If you get the chance try Old Car City in mid to late September when the sweet gum leaves turn yellow and fall. The yellow leaves make a great contrast with all the red rust and left over paint on the cars. In your images above, I especially like the close-ups showing all the details. All winter I watched the weather reports for a chance of snow at Old Car City but it didn’t happen, maybe next year.
Best wishes for your retirement, whatever “retirement” really means.
For me retirement means, work even harder on things of personal importance, serving him, being with family and friends, and making more images! oh yes, and taking some afternoon naps!!
Sorry Him with a capital H!
What a great place for my first photo workshop of any kind! Loved being with the His Light group in March at Old Car City. Looking forward to coming again.
And we look forward to seeing you again Mike!
Man, I love those images I can just hear Ray Charles singing Georgia as the winds sweep though the pine trees. I really like Roger’s ideal of snow at Old Car City. Put that on our to-do list.
I believe we are all looking froward to your retirement as much as you are. Can’t wait to see what God has in store for us all.
Me to!
I am still disappointed that I was not unable to attend that workshop!!
You were missed!
Although I’ve never been to this location, I think there is a similar spot on Vashon Island, WA – The Engles Repair Yard has a few acres of aging classics, and you’re always welcome to come for a visit.
I will do just that, thanks for the info and invite!
Hi Bill
I enjoyed seeing your images of Old Car City, one of my favourite photo destinations. Although I live in the UK, I have visited OCC 3 times in the past 12 months whilst visiting my son who lives in Atlanta.
I found getting interesting images a real challenge so in my last visit earlier this month, I used my 100mm macro lens to get some nice close-up shots. In the last few days, I have started compositing people into some of my OCC pictures to give more interest and have had some success in competitions with that strategy. I was fortunate to win first place with this image in an RPS competition: http://www.rpsdig-thamesvalley.org.uk/Competitions/pdi-2013.html
All the best, Tony
