Describing the breath of the work and experiences of Bill Pekala is nearly impossible. After leading Nikon’s Professional Services for almost 40 years, then retiring and helping Sony get a strong foothold in the professional market Bill has done it all!  Bill has shot every conceivable kind of major event across the globe with all of the best press, media, nature and sports photographers of the past five decades.  From Super Bowls, to U.S. Opens to Air Shows, to Every major event in the nations capital to all the shuttle launches and that’s just scratching the surface.  Bill has been a great friend for many years, was my boss at Nikon, and did as much to further my career as anyone I’ve ever known!  These images are but a small sampling of an incredible and enduring career of great guy and shooter who has done, for many others, what he did for me!

Many of the iconic images you’ve enjoyed through our lifetimes, Bill Pekala was a there helping make it happen for all those photographers that were there to witness history, in many cases, he got the shot too!

Doing close-up photography is kind of one of my specialties and I was pretty happy with my work…..until I saw Mike Moats images!  I really admire his vision, his technical expertise and of course, his art!  Mike and Jack Graham used to teach together and Jack tells the story that after a few early morning risings to do a  sunrise, Mike said he would rather sleep in and became a close-up shooter, not sure that that is the whole story, but I’m glad he chose this path, I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do!

When I think of who of my favorite photographers are the most “Pure Artists” only one name comes to mind, Guy Tal.  While I love the work of many photographers and they all  have their own special charm, the most peaceful moments come when I look through a gallery of Guy’s work.  The way he handles color and compositions are just breathtaking!  See if you don’t agree in this small sampling!

When I think of  Jack Graham, photographically, I think of the “Decisive Moment”! In all my years of working with and teaching with Jack I have seen this consistent pattern in his approach, he strives to be on location at the decisive moment.  I can remember many a morning sitting in the pitch black dark, to be sure we are there if and when it happens!  More than often it has paid dividends!  The shot above of the wild horses in Iceland is a perfect example of his “at the perfect moment” timing!  Whether it is the perfect season, perfect light or action of the wildlife, Jack is a master!

I’ve been blessed to be his partner on so many great adventures!
