I made the rules, so I will live by them.  I thought I could make this work, and I had no reason to have thought that.  Let’s pretend that this image just went on the screen at one of mine and Jack’s workshops, here is what I would say, trying to be as kind as possible:  First what is the subject?  I can only assume it is the waterfalls, but, there is not very much of the falls in the image!  The foreground is not adding anything and there is a lot of foreground!  The light is dull, and the background is not really very exciting.  I would say come back on another day with better light and find a better vantage point!  I’m assuming that if you could see more of the falls it would be very nice. So Bill, you blew it!!!!!

Ouch! Now I know how that feels, and I was right, this mage is failing major league. I felt pretty let down by myself!

As I dejectedly walked out I saw the tourist trap flu for the kids to mine for gems, now dry and empty, but the lines were pretty terrific in the light so,  I shot it.  That lifted my spirits!

Cumberland Falls is known for it’s famous Moonbow.  Explained above, I thought so you guys can see what that is all about and I don’t have a shot of it, even though I only live 15 miles from the park!  I stopped in the gift shop to see if they had a postcard I could copy.  They  did so below this is the Moonbow!

Nice shot by Doug McCoy Photography

Looking around I  saw this sign and it was about how I was feeling now that I was starting to get the zone!

Next I found these two shots!

Walking back to the car I saw these and had to give it a try.

Now starting to really feel good I saw some canoes at the Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort site and went in to try shoot them, the colors were great but a sign said don’t go past this point, and I just couldn’t get a composition I liked!

As I was leaving I noticed a light was on in the office, even though they were closed and this is off season, I went over and knocked on the door, but no one answered.  I was just getting  back in my car when a lady opened the door and asked if she could help me!  I explained I wanted photograph the canoes, but didn’t want to trespass, she said no problem go ahead! I try to always ask for permission other people’s property, it is courteous, the right thing to do and a lot easier than running from a shotgun blast!  The payoff was worth the effort!

Photography Post Mortem:  This is easy, all images with the X-T5 and the 16-80 Zoom, one of my most used lenses!

So a day that starts out lousy doesn’t have to stay that way!

Blessings,
