O.K. I really appreciate all the comments and emails about the last post and frankly you’ve helped me make a another decision, probably won’t be the last, but then, would you come back here if I didn’t come up with new ideas!!!!!
O.K. so here is my thought for the day. Carl Turner, a dear friend and brother suggested I go with just the three Fujicrons, (love that term, making them Fuji’s answer to the Leitz Sumicrons!) He did suggest I would take the 100-400 for use in the Palouse. I love that idea but then I think, wow, no 16mm f 1.4 for extreme close-ups with a wide angle that is superbly sharp. Then I just re-bought, (second time), the 18-55 and was anxious to put it to work. Of course, you have to have a wide angle and I can never decide between the 14mm f 2.8 and the 10-24 f 4. The 14mm f 2.8 is the sharpest and small and light, but the 10-24 is very versatile and it is a zoom, easy framing when I can’t move!!! Now the 55-200 is a super sharp, compact lens that is perfect in harbors where you need to reach out. because I only know one man that could ever walk on water, and it wasn’t Jack, sorry Jack!
Since I do have a Think Tank Navigator with wheels, well you know, there will be close-up, opportunities and there is a space under the 100-400 in the rolling bag, so why not slip in the 200mm Micro Nikkor!!!! See??? (below) & the frog!
So here is the “current” plan, all the stuff below rolls on the plane with me, I make every attempt to use just the Fujicrons ( 23mm – 35mm – 50mm ) day to day in-the-field. If I need to do close-ups I have the Nikkor 200mm Micro, if I need a really wide lens I’ve got a couple to choose from. Look this whole exercise is rediculous, but I do really want to make myself think more about the images than the gear, so I hope to have discipline and learn something! Fair enough?
